Help! Can't see my files in WinXP!!!

Hey everyone...

I have a 60 Gig drive with 4 partitions. I've installed Win98SE on the first partition, WinXP on the second, and the remainder are just audio/video drives.

Now... I had an old HD that I transferred data from onto the new drive. I did some of the transferring using Win98, and some while in WinXP. Now, for some reason, I can only access the files transferred while in WinXP when I boot up with WinXP, and the files I transferred in Win98SE, when I boot up with that OS.

Does anyone know how I can make all my files accessible in either OS?

Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to understand your situation, so let me rephrase:

Let's say, in C:, you have 15GB, formatted under XP as an NTFS partition <- my assumption
In D:, you have 15GB, formatted under 98SE as a FAT32 partition <- another assumption

You copied data from an old HD to both partitions, using XP to copy to c: drive and 98SE to copy to d: drive.

Your situation now is that you can't access the copied data in the d: drive while in XP. You also can't access the copied data in the c: drive while in 98SE.

You are wondering how to have access to data in both partitions while operating under XP AND 98SE.

Are these correct?

Hey dquan97!

Thanks for writing back...

I'm afraid your assumptions are incorrect. So here's the whole story...

I booted with a Win98SE startup disk... Then used a dos version of partition magic to create my partitions:

c: Win98SE (5 Gigs)
d: WinXP (15 Gigs)
e: Audio (15 Gigs)
f: Video (25 Gigs)

All partitions are FAT32 partitions. I did that so that I *would* be able to access files regardless of what OS I was working in (despite the fact that I'd be working with WinXP for the most part).

So I first started with c: and started copying files from my old HD to the e: and f: drives... But I couldn't do it all in one shot (time issues). Later that day I came back and continued, but this time, under WinXP. And finished up the rest of the transfer while in that OS.

So that's the story. Any thoughts?

Actually NogginBoink, I don't get error messages.

Here's an example of what happens...

I have a folder on the e: drive which was created while in Win98SE, with files transferred into it, again, while in Win98SE.

Now, when I'm in WinXP, I can see the folder I had created, however, when I try to access it, instead of seeing the 67 files which are there, I see two objects. First a folder called:

[.shellc.las

...and a single file called:

40-5081-.101

...and the size of the file is equivalent to the total size of all 67 files which I can still see and access when I boot with Win98SE.

What do you guys make of that?
