HELP! cant o/c my duron

i bought a Av7/unlocked Duron600@850 (pencil unlocked) froma guy here at anand and he said it will run fine at 8.5x multiplier and 1.75v using golden orb. bt wheni gt it i can only run at 600mhz dedfault and jumper free mode:\ when ever i checnge the multiplier it doesnt boot. wahts the problem??? he said it woeked fine at 850mhz stable and now after i recieve it it doestnt boot:\ will appreciate ur help!

Well, my board doesn't allow me to go higher than a multiplier of 10X. Could try getting him to swap your board for you.

sounds like the pencil job was no good. take it to the forsale/trade forum for resolution on a defective product.


try to work it out with the dude who sold it to you before taking to public. He should refund the chip if it is not what he says. thats how it works there.

Hmm, that reminds me! Pencil unlocked? You could try repenciling it again. Do a complete job of it.

You need to redo the penciling tricks. Every couple of day I would turn off my computer and when I turn it back on there would blank screen and no post. I had to take it out and redo the penciling. It keeps wearing off. I've tried putting some superglue to seal in the graphite, but that didn't works either.

thanks a BUNCH for posting! ya thats what i am trying to do right now. hope we can work out but at same time i want to still try to fix it. now i am new to the socket athlons and duno anything about modding orpenciling job. what do i do i pencil? anybody pLEASE have a pic or a link on how to do this? i just cleaned off the durinf fromm all the thermal grease on teh chip and put some only on the core and reattached it. btw i can run the duron now at 650mhx jumper mode (100x6.5x) only no higher and at 1.75v. so the jumper mode does work but screen goes blank after 6.5x multiplier. :\ please lmk how to do pencil tricl

btw i am using PC-100 Micron 128mb ram 8e ns, and have a 64mb seimens pc-100 8ns sitting here. what ram ns have u all setted urs in the bios? 3t, 2t, 8ns 125, or 7ns 143?

THANKS CPAR. u were right, afer re-pencling a few times it at 850 stable fo r20mins now at 1.65 but very hot 53c/127f using thermal probe attached to the golden orb in the bottom, is that too hot?? also waht cooler is good for duron?? please lmk about this stuff

Depends on what type load you got it under. I would say if that is the idle temp you may crash under load like gaming etc.

You need to get yourself and Alpha 6035 or the Globalwin FOP32+1 which is a little cheaper and performs very well. The Orbs is bad news for the Duron that's why your temp is kind of high now.

Hey... look man you gotta redo that crapy pencil job... otherwise you stuck. Just do not use pancil... use something decent, like "Rear Defogger Repair Kit". You'll see the changes right away. Don't bother with the pencil trick. Do yourself a favour.
And get a decent heatsink/fan. And please be really carefull when putting CPU/Heatsink on and off the motherboard.

u guys were right, g-orb SUCKS. it F U C K I N G burned my duron!!!!!!! i was installing new cdrw and when i turned the pc on bamm balnk screen and saw that the core was damage i think.:\ man i need a new one now:\ sucks as hell!
