I put disc 1 in and I do not get install. I get play, uninstall and other stuff! When I press play it tries to run NFS Underground! I dont want to uninstall NFSU! And I cannot find an executable on the disc to manually run an install. And of course EAs website is of no use!

I had to uninstall Underground. Worked fine after that. I suppose you could try renaming the Underground executable because I notice they both share the same name--->speed.exe

Worth a shot I guess

That's real sloppy coding on their part.

You'd think EA would have the foresight to avoid something like this. NFSMW.exe would have worked just fine.

You know I noticed the same thing when I went from NFSU to NFSU 2, I didn't even consider the problems. Were all the NFS series named like this, or just the more recent? It's real bad on their part, because you can only have on installed at a time...

I uninstalled NFSU now the install says that directx 9.0c needs to be installed then it craps out! I am running the latest DX. Arg! WTF? This the only game out of 1000s I ever had an issue with! Even HL2 went smooth!

I know NFS Porsche Unleashed was not (it was porsche.exe), but I'm not sure about Hot Pursuit 2.

Way to screw over your fans, EA. I'm actually one of the 4 people who enjoys NFS Underground 1 (didn't care for NFSU2) and am currently playing through it again.

So, if I pick up Most Wanted, I don't have any other choice than to remove NFSU1? Maybe try renaming the U1/U2 speed.exe to something different?

Sounds like yet another quality product release by our friends over a EA.

It worked on my craptop. I really dont know why this POS wont work on my main PC. The agreement text doesnt even display where I am supposed to answer yes, then it says i need DX9c, which I have. I reinstalled NFSU1 and now it has the same prob. Gonna hook up my LCD via analog and uninstall NFSU1 and see what happens. I disabled all unnecesary startup crap and get the same prob. Geez, and I thought HL2 with the stupid steam thing was a PITA! :)

Sounds like a personal problem Oyeve, those are things that would be the fault of your computer.

No, I don't think so. I can install tons of games but this one. I even uninstalled several latest games and reinstalled and all worked ok. Its just this one.

I have read here and there some folks are having luck doing this with the DX9c error...

Go to the launch shortcut properties and force Windows 2000 compatibility mode. Try it in the folder NFSMW folder itself and the desktop shortcut I believe.

I got that Directx Problem in the Demo with 1 download. Downloaded it from an alternate source and it worked.

Strange that such a bug is in the final game. I tried installing DirectX from the Demo package and it complained that the .cab file couldnt be trusted. Perhaps try to install directx from the NFSMW disc.

I would try that but the game wont install at all. After UI NFSU1 I run the MW install, enter the cd key and it tells me my system needs DX9.0c, which it already has. Funny thing is it installed on a laptop that does not even come close to the system requirements the game needs. I cant even find a number to call them!

Well, after posting my problem on EAs forum it appears a lot of people are having the same issue I am. Someone found a fix. You have to copy disc 1 to your HD, go into the autorun directory and edit the autorun.cfg file and where it says directx-9.0c change it to 9.0. Run the autorun.exe from the HD and the game installs. When it asks for the other discs just put them in your cdrom and hit ok even tho its asks for drive C. I did this and it works fine. Now, being that I had to uninstall NFSU, I cant install NFSU because it tries to play NFSMS. Its ok cuz I have a copy on my laptop that has the no CD exe and I can copy it from there. EA messed up with this release coding. Its a great game tho! :)

WooHoo! EAgames NFSMW forums is teeming with pissedoff PC users! Many people are having the same issues I have! EA has FINALLY put a fix (although it doesnt really work) on their FAQ.
