I just got a new celeron 600 for my BM6 and well it doesn't seem to want to boot. Once I put my old CPU back on my system boots again. I have flashed to the latest BIOS version. Anyone have any suggestions? Unless my chip is DEAD.

You need to provide some additional info. What voltage and FSB settings have you tried? Start by putting back in your 600 and set the FSB to 66 MHZ and the voltage to 1.7. If it posts and boots at 66 MHZ then try gradually adjusting the voltage. At some point you should hit a happy medium. As to the BIOS, does the bios you flashed support the 600? When your PC boots is the celeron even detected by the BIOS and if so, what does it say it is?

oops sorry..
Ok first off the BM6 has a softmenu and i meant to say the computer doesn't even post not boot. The new BM6 BIOS does support the celeron 600s.

that's the probelm it doesn't boot.
Is there anyway way of checking if the CPU is "alive" besides plugging it in?

I had the same problem when I upgraded to a Cel 566 on an MSI 6163 Pro. The problem for me was the voltage. The 566 used 1.5V, but apparently, my MB wouldn't go that low. So, I put my old CPU back in and manually set the voltage in the bios to 1.75V (it was on Auto before). Then plugged the new one in and it worked.

thanks for tip Rickr. Unfortunately i just tried that and it's a no go. I even tried setting the multiplier to 9, the bus to 66, and the voltage to 1.6v before sticking in my new CPU.

well since I just checked and it says that in fact the board does support the 600 celeron, the only advice I can give you is see if it works on another board, sounds to me like you might have gotten a bum chip, this being because your old one works and yet your new one will not even though the abit site says the 600 is supported
