When I start the game, the display would expand beyond my 19" screen size, requiring me to move my mouse to the edge to view the other side of the display. this seems to happen on all the games i play for windows under WinXP...how do i disable this virtual resolution thingy?? thanks

Its most likely due to XP defaulting to a 60HZ refresh rate.
Make sure you have the correct monitor .inf installed.
If that doesnt help...

You didnt state which videocard you have, so Ill give ya a link to a proggie that will let you set your refresh rates with any videocard.
HZTOOL

I havent tried it with XP, so im hoping its compatable.

There may even be a fix for the 60hz / XP refresh rate problem by now, so you dont have to use utilities, do a search.

Powerstrip & nvmax are two popular programs that let nvidia card users set their refresh rate manually.

You tried changing resolution of the games to match your XP desktop or make the game lower in res?
Sounds like virtual desktop is the problem you should be able to disable that in the ATI display panel.

well i don't know if this will help but i have had a simular problem with an ati card i have the radeon. the problem with mine was when i put the resolution to high i got the same type of occurence that you did only it was in a normal windows XP....the problem i found was that i had the tv output enabled and it only supported a resolution to like 800x600 and when i had the tv out enabled and the resolution greater than 800x600 it got all screwed up.....all i did was disable the tv out and was able to run the desktop at whatever resolution i wanted...it is worth a try

hope it helps
