Everytime I go do a disk Doctor a error message would pop up.. it says :

The Disk check could not be performed because exclusive access to the drive could no be obtained. Do you want to schedule this disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?

so how do I obtain an exclusive access???

thanks in advance

Let me guess, you're running Windows 2000 Pro right? Just says "Yes" and then reboot. The computer will then perform all the different phases of the disk check while rebooting.

Yes I am running w2k pro.. I did click Yes and it did the disk constancy check as well.. however after that when I click disk doctor again.. same message would pop up

check disk and disk doctor are one in the same. pretty much the same idea of a scandisk for win2k. now the reason why you cant do it when youre in windows is because you have services runnign in the backround, as all win2k clients do and it cant check them while thyre running, which is why it asks you to schedule a disk check when you reboot. same goes for Diskkeeper, and any other diskdefragger or scandisk/chkdsk utility for win2k. you are however able to check and defrag any non system partitions.
