Hi I have Win2k Pro, WinXP Pro and Win2k AdvS installed in 3 different primary partitions. First I installed Win2k Pro followed by WinXP Pro and I could dual boot easily with no problem. Later, I installed Win2k AdvS but have problem boot up my WinXP Pro.l However, Win2k Pro and Win2k AdvS boot just fine. Here is the boot.ini I have...

[boot loader]
timeout=3
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

Everything I select WinXP Pro, it says the ntoskernel.exe is corrupted and asked for re-installation. I also tried boot it up with WinXP CD and repair with "FIXBOOT" command at the repair console but still have no luck. Perhaps my procedure was inappropriate. Anyhow, if anyone with solution please help me.

Many thanks in advance.

I'm not a specialist in fixing NT boot problems, but having two "partition(2)" entries looks a little strange. Perhaps that's something to check out?

After trying your suggestion I got the following message when boot up WinXP Pro.

Windows could not start because the followig file is missing or corrupted
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll
Please re-installed a copy of the above file.

I am thinking, maybe jliechty is right. By looking at the boot.ini file we have 2 entries with "partition(2)". Maybe because of this the NTLDR looks at the wrong place to start(?) So is there any tool/program/way within Win2k Pro or Win2k AdvS to verify the correct entries in the boot.ini file?

What will be the final solution for worst case scenario where all suggested methods don't work? Reinstall WinXP Pro?

Thanks in advance.
