help! can't boot from s ata drive!

I've just assembled a computer as follows:
asus k8v se deluxe
athlon 64 3000
1gb pc32000 mem
windows xp home edition (oem) 2002 version with service pack 1
cd rom drives
old ibm 20gb ide drive
new wd raptor 72gb s ata drive

I connected the WD drive to the onboard serial ata connections, not the RAID connector, but the system bios does not even recognize this as a possible bootable drive. I installed win xp on the old ibm drive, but the os doesn't recognize the drive. However, when I look under device manager, the drive is listed as working properly.
I'd like to install windows xp to the sata drive and boot off of it. Any help would be appreciated.

When installing Windows it will ask you if you need to install 3rd party scsi drivers and to press f6. Later it will ask for the drivers. You need to have these ready on a floppy. You should then be able to proceed as normal.
