Help!! can't access the CD burner (ANYBODY??)

Well, it seems the computer is no longer able to find the CD drive LG 16X10X40X, as in explorer now longer gives it a drive letter,

I'm sure it is detected in Bios (on the secondary slave) and when booting .

It was fine until updating my system W2K with the service pack2 and updates, but the update site informed me i didn't have media player 7,1, while the software installation folder said i did, so i thought the easy option would be to uninstall the existing media player and then reinstall.

Since then no access to the burner, Nero and Ez can't see it either,

I've tryed to detect new hardware but to know avail

So can anyone offer any help?

The aspi layer was missing, so i've re-installed the layers and two host adapters have been detected!

but still no access to the cd ;~(

where do i go from here?
 
Its not even present in the device manager!!

the DVDrom is present but no CDRW!!

any more ideas this is very wierd?
