It drives me crazy.
I've been shoppping for a new 19" monitor for a while now.
I do a simple test. First, I make sure that a default window background is set to white. I then make a new text file and open it and maximize a window.
I expect to see 'white' througout the screen and no gradations, but so far in most cases it's bluish-greenish something which is uneven across the screen with some circles of grey.

Am I too picky?
I've looked at 19" monitors made by Sony, Samsung, KDS, IBM, Compaq, Mitsubishi, Philips, Hitachi, etc., but they all seem to have that problem.

What surprised me was that most TFT flat monitors pass my little test with flying colors.

Any opinions or suggestions?

I know, Anand loves VisionMaster PRO 450.
Cnet and Zdnet UK were not impressed at all.
I cannot find this monitor in stores locally, so who should I trust? Or does it depend on how badly UPS was bumping it?

Are these monitors you're testing right next to each other? Could the magnetic interference from the monitor beside each other be affecting the electron gun? Did you try degaussing the monitor before you run your tests? Because i have two monitors here, a Samsung 950P and a ADI Microscan 5P(?), both are 19", and both don't show the anamolies you've stated.

I think you are being a bit anal. I just tried your test on my CTX 19" and did not notice a whole lot of distortion. Just a tad up around the top, did a degauss and it went away. I think this is normal behavior for a CRT.

Your test is pretty much worthless anyway. I spend a very very small percentage of my time on the PC looking at a blank white screen.

I have had the Iiyama Vision Master Pro 502 for about 2 years now,( 21" version), and have never had a prob with it/ and the clarity is fantastic, I was originally trying to get the 450 pro, but they were out of stock, and I was antsy/ It has a better image than the 21"... Try www.acecomputers.com for the Iiyama/ which is where I bought mine, as they are an authorized Iiyama dealer.

Thank you all for the input.
I tried my little test at the B&M stores and most of the time these monitors were a distance away from each other.
The reason for all this trouble is that I want my monitor to display colors accurately. And "yes", I'm being a little bit "anal" if I'm paying $500-$600 for a 19".
I now have a 17" MAG DJ707 and it has all of the "galloing" and color gradation that I've described. But I paid not too much to get it a few years ago.

Does anybody have a new Iiyama Visionmaster Pro 451 or a NEC FP950?
How is it?
Where did you buy it?
