story:
earlier today i was snowboarding and i had a slight impact injury to my left knee. it didn't hurt to bad but prevented me from extending or bending my knee the full rotation without a burning sensation. well, i think fine, maybe it just needs to rest a day or two. i go to bed about 1:30 am, then 3.5 hours later i wake up in severe pain. i'm getting a constant VERY painfull burning sensation at its current position. my knee is bent about 45 degrees from full extension, the slightest move produces body cringing pain/burning. i was only able to make it out of my bed to post this because my computer is 3 feet away.

i would go to the hospital right now, but i can hardy rotate in my chair without excruciating pain. i'm thinking about attemting to make my way to the bathroom to somehow get cold water, don't know if i could do that though. in other words, it is 6 AM, and my knee frigging kills, i can't move it without it hurting more and it is damned near unbearable. i have to stop everything i'm doing to soly concentrate on the pain.

need advice urgently, oh and if it helps, i'm in a dorm setting.

5 words, if it hurts that much and you're in that much pain, "GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM!" Don't play games w/ you joints!

thats the problem, the pain is preventing me from moving. i'd go in a heartbeat, but i don't know if i could drive myself. i guess i'm looking for a temporary solution to the pain so i might be able to make it to the hospital.

oh, and i can't justify calling an ambulance for this situation.

Cattlegod, if you're in a dorm, then call a friend, if no one is available, call your RA, if he/she isn't available call the Nurse On Call at your dorm. If all of these suggestions don't help dial 911!

take some pain killers if you have them and bite the bullet, go to the emergency room now, the longer you prolong it the higher risk you have of perminently damaging your knee

Do you have friends? Have them take you to the emergency room if it hurts that bad.

Since you're in a dorm (edit: assuming that you're in college) mommy and/or daddy's insurance should cover everything.

My point exactly Czar, stop posting and get some medical attention!

alright, i see a bottle of tylenol across the room, going to try to take a couple and make it to my car and go to the hospital. we have 2 feet of snow so it isn't going to be easy considering i have to hop on 1 leg. wish me luck

good luck, hope it goes well 🙂

Cattlegod, screw it, dial 911 and GO, that way the snow isn't any of your concern, good luck 🙂

Oh yeah, by all means, don't ask anyone for help like a normal person...just risk falling down icy steps and breaking your neck or getting in a car accident cause you can't work the pedals and killing some poor family. I'll save the headlines from the paper 'Boy dead from PRIDE infection.'

I think now would be a good time to go outside and do some sprints the jog a few miles.

Are you sure your in college??

well, i'm back. here is my diagnosis: "You may have something damaged on the inside of your knee."

they gave me crutches, and a perscription lol

frig, i could have told myself that.

If you're in pain you're ok. Probably a bad sprain or some torn cartilage. Be happy you can still walk and put weight on it, you should still have all your ligaments. When you tear a ligament you don't feel a thing, it's just numb and your knee swells up and it completely gives out. Rest up for a couple days and take it easy, the pain should go away. Go see your normal doctor just to be safe but unless you ripped something up he'll tell you the same thing.

AS A knee injury sufferer I can tell you that you are in for some real pain. Basically they can't do anything until the swelling goes down. Then you will more than likely get phyical therapy HOPEfully there is something they can fix.

I had an impact injury about five years ago, (came down on my knee on the knee cap) after a year and a hlf of physical therapy and 2 MRI's I was diagnosed with Arthritis. I have had to learn WHat I can and can't do. (I NEVER do a lot of walking BOTH WEEKEND DAYS). I have learned to SLOW down when I start to feel pain as to make is possible to function. I stopped taking pain killers about two years ago and have approached it as a lifestyle change.

Hopefully they can figure out what exactly is wrong and can get you back to 100%, but imact injuries are some of the worst and they magnify and exsisting probs you may have with your knee.

GOOD LUCK!

The pain is probably not even a direct cause of the impact, but from the post-injury swelling. The injury is now to the point where a doctor cannot diagnos the problem. In fact, the hydraulic pressure from the swelling has already run its course. Whatever you do, stay off the knee. If you try to walk on the swelling then meniscus (cartilage) damage is a high probability.

My word of advice is save the medical bill until Monday. Ice on for 20 minutes, ice off for a half hour. Repeat as you can tolerate. The goal is to decrease the swelling. If you feel damage in the knee after the swelling goes away then you probably built up enough hydraulic pressure to damage the ligaments.

edit - I just saw your last post about being back. Doh!
