OK. I've started building a new computer and it seems ive somehow managed to screw both my current and new computers up.

I had assembled my new computer with new components (execpt for the CD writer which i took out of the old computer) and started it up. Great it works. I then turn it off again and back on....still working. I then begin to install the OS. Oh-oh it says i have no HDD. So i turn the comp off and check it out. Luckly it appears to be only a loss connection.

I start the comp bacl up and then i get the message "CPU is unworkable or has been changed Please recheck - CPU soft menu". Hmm. Oh well i guess theres nothing to do but continue. It starts to boot up but for some reason it gets stuck on "verifying DMI pool data". :S So my question is: Is the CPU broken and if so if i get a new one will it be able to get past "verifying DMI pool data"?

I took out some jumpers when i was connecting the speaker headers to the motherboard. I have NF7-S mother board and took out the jumpers on the FPIO2 header i was wondering if this could be the source of the problem too.

The other problem im having is that i took out my CD writter to put into the new comp and when i put it back into my old comp it refuses too boot up with the message "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". However if I start the comp up with it not attached its perfectly fine. Is there some process that i have to go thru to get it to accept it?

Im really stuck with what to do for both problems. I've checked the jumpers and also i've tried clearing the CMOS on the new computer. Still nothing.

Please help me. Thanks alot.

well for you first problem of CPU is unworkable or has been changed Please recheck - CPU soft menu, you need to resetup your cpu in the bios, you only get that error when your cpu is running under the wrong settings. As far as pulling out that jumper you consult your users manual to see what it was and you should probably put that jumper back.

With your second problem on your old computer I have no idea...I hate when things stop working for no reason. But did you happen to change any of the jummper settings on CD writer? you might get that error if both drives (hard disk + CD writer) are on the same ide cable and both have the master jumper on, so I'd double check to make sure the CD writer is set on the slave jumper.

Good Luck with your PC's

On the Abit motherboard, go into the bios. You'll see (probably in the SoftMenu area) an option for "Speed Error Hold". I'll bet that's currently set to "Enabled". Set it to "Disabled". That should get you past that error. But the error tells you that you're running your CPU overclocked, either via the multiplier settings or the Front Side Bus settings. What you may have to do is look at the SoftMenu and make sure it's detecting your particular CPU correctly. Sometimes, it won't, and you'll have to tell it what you have.

On the other pc with the bootup problem with the CDRW installed, I'd doublecheck to make sure of a couple of things.

First, what's your boot order in the bios? Set it for the HDD (hard drive) first for now and try with the CDRW installed.
Doublecheck all jumpers on your IDE devices. Make sure if something's on the Master end of the cable that it's set for Master on its jumper. Same for Slave.

Make sure your Hard Drive is on IDE1 Master. If it's a special controller like a Promise controller, make sure you set the boot order for SCSI first.

I've put the jumpers back in and managed to get rid of the CPU is unworkable error but the computer still freezes when its "verifying DMI pool data".

My spec are: KF7-S mobo, 2800+ XP AMD athlon, 512 RAM, 400W PSU, Radeon 9600XT, Maxtor 80GB SATA HDD.

Also on my other computer i can now get it to start with the CD ROM connected to the IDE slot. However it doesnt seem to recognise it.

I can change the boot sequence to:A,CD,C CD,A,C CD,C,A D,A,SCSI E,A,SCSI F,A,SCSI SCSI,A,C SCSI,C,A C only LS/ZIP,C A,C,SCSI C,A,SCSI C,CD,A

Which one should i change it too to get the CD ROM to work?

Thanks for the help

The boot order shouldn't affect whether the cdrom is recognized. There's some other issue. Does the CDROM show up in the bios when you boot up? Usually, you'll see it listed as an IDE device while booting. In the bios (for the pc with the cdrom problem), is the IDE controller set to Auto? Might be set to disabled, currently. I'm not sure how you hooked up the CDROM and what IDE controller you put it on, but here's what I would do:

Put the Hard Drive on IDE 1 in the Master Position (end connector of the IDE cable). Put the CDROM in the Master position of IDE 2. Make sure the jumper pin for the CDROM on its back side is in the Master position.
Doublecheck to make sure the red stripe of the IDE cable is hooked up to Pin 1 of the 40 pins on the CDROM. Pin 1 is usually denoted on the back of the CDROM. Might have to look closely to see it on the diagram on the CDROM. Doublecheck in your NEW pc that you have the IDE cables hooked up correctly; the red stripe side attached to the PIN 1 side of your IDE devices. And also doublecheck to see that the motherboard end of the IDE cable is also attached to PIN 1 of the motherboard IDE connector.

For the new computer and the "verifying DMI" problem, here's a good page about that and some solutions:

Computer freezes at Verifying DMI...

OK i got the OS installed and everything's working as far as I can see except for two things:

-The speakers have no sound. I dissconnected the jumpers and attached the speakers again and the comp still works just with no sound. I get the beep as the computer starts but thats all. Any ideas?

-The second problem is the SATA i still havent installed the drivers but im not exacally sure how too.... I have the disk with them on it but when i try to boot from it the comp refuses too. How do I install these drivers?

Also my old computer still doesnt recognise the CD ROM. I've tried checked the jumpers and the connection to the IDE slots. Their all right. I think it might be a BIOS setting but i dont know what would make the computer ignore the CD ROM. Any info would be appreciated. (Its hard to cope without an occasonal relaxing game of Warcraft).

Finally thanks to everyone who has helped me to this point. Thanks again.
