what size is your powersupply?

try it outside the computer case......put it on a phone book

also remove the heatsink and check the heatsink grease makeing sure it didnt go anywhere but the core itself

just minimum to check with

memory
video card
cpu and heatsink with grease
and powersupply
keyboard/mouse

that should get you working

Yes you can. Although, if you aren't overclocking and your heatsink already has a thermal pad on the bottom, don't worry about it.

cool... i'll overclock later, and i'll put the coppeer shim in.

if it still fails to post, would the cpu be at fault?

There are still other possiblities. Are you sure you attached the LED and switch cables properly to the motherboard? I have put those on backwards enough times to always test the connectors on the opposite way I put them on first if they don't work.

i did try the internal speaker, lAST NIGHT, ALL IT DID WAS BEEP, NO MATTER HOW I ATTACHED IT (doh caps)

so i didn't attach it....

i gotta check one morew time...

so if still no go, the check cables...

i don't need a kb & mouse right? just to post

have the speaker and power switch hooked up........so you can tell what is going on.

if you get a long beep its video card signal............

continous short beeps is memory i think...........

check manual for your board to be certain

i would have the keyboard and mouse hooked up

also shim could be to tall and cause the heatsink not to make contact with your processor. be sure it is right hieght. also make sure the shim doesnt move when you go to place heatsink on. i personnelly never have used a shim myself

you did not use any TIM at all when you first applied power to the mobo? :Q you might have toasted the CPU right then and there as it only takes milliseconds to fry even tho I don't think that is your problem. TIM=ThermalInterfaceMaterial ...."thermal paste/grease, pad/compound some of the compound/pads have to be heated up by the processor to be working(that's why I remove them then put ASII on my builds). Where is your CPU/HSF fan connector plugged in? Some boards require that it be plugged to an on the board fan header.

on my Abit KG7 it didnt require a fan to be hooked up to the fan header for the cpu. he has stated that the fan does start so i dont think this board requires it either

<< no beeps and fan fire up
so its good i think
>>

does the fan on the CPU/HSF turn but not really with any speed? ...with the power off and case unplugged from the wallsocket clear your CMOS ..leave the jumper in the Clear position about 2 to 5 minutes then put back. Reconnect and retry.

no beeps means a cpu/mobo problem. odds are that you improperly seated your cpu. make sure its correclty seated. since the fan spins the power supply is fine. since no beeeps its either cpu/mobo
