HELP - Building a PC for the 1st time!!

Hi - I'm in need of some guidance!

I've just embarked on building my first PC and already I've hit a major problem.

I'm building the machine in a Supermicro SC760 server case, and having fitted the CPU and ram to the board, connected fans and installed the board in the box, I then connected the front panel connectors and the powersupply.

However, when I connect power to the powersupply absolutely nothing happens. I'm pretty sure that with the last Supermicro box I had the fan on the powersupply would always come on for a couple of seconds whenever power was connected (even if the system was switched off at the front). Does this mean the powersupply is kaput or could it simply be that one of my fron panel connections isn't correct.

Any help would be really really appreciated on this - I'm a PC building pygmy and this is scaring the s***t out of me.

Many thanks in advance.

Jules

I have that same case and there is no switch on the powersupply

Here is what to check

1)make sure the mobo is not grounding out on the case and that you properly positioned the standoffs

2)Make sure the front panel connectors are in the proper location ...good rule of thumb make sure the writing on the connector is facing "outward and not "towards" each other. Having a connector in the wrong place or reversed might be the problem.

3)Make sure the CPU,RAM and all other cards are properly seated...reseat all to be on the safe side.

4)Make sure the powercord is plugged in the back of the case and it is set at 115 volts (should be but a precautionary move non the less).

5)Make sure the surge protector is on

Good Luck

It won't be grounding out if the fans are not coming on, everything will whrrrr up but not a sausage on the screen.

Most likely the connectors to the case, power to motherboard or electricity plug/cable to power supply...if its none of them try the power supply in a machine that works.

good luck
