help building a hot computer

I am looking to build a computer which runs very hot so I can test some cooling systems. I'm looking for some direction into hardware, what software to run during the tests to keep it running hot, and the best way to get temp readings. Thanks for any help.

I wish I could remember the name of the program I used to use on my OverClocking system to see just how hot the system would get under extra-ordinary load. I think have it still laying around somewhere, if I can find it when I get back from work, I'll post again. It would pretty much do exactly what you are looking for.

Prime 95 does a nice job heating up the processor. Prime 95 + a nice heavy duty 3D screensaver set in high res mode should heat it up nicely.

CPU Burn-in is the name of the application. It will heat the processor in order to check for errors under ridiculous load conditions. You can either have it error-check or not, the 'not' option being the one that generates higher temps generally.

I cant believe that noone has suggested a pentium 4 prescott, those things run HELLA HOT.

I came into this thread to tell him this. the prescotts idle extremely hot. I think mine was up at about 58-60 degrees celsius
