I want a computer, mostly for gaming and Photoshop.

I've been looking at this deal that Dell has:
http://configure.dell.com/dell...s1&l=en&OC=D5302V_F_1E

for 840$ (canadian) you get an E6550 (2.33 4mb cache) / 2gb ram at 667 mhz / 22 inch monitor

I was thinking about overclocking the processor a bit and adding a 8800GT. I'm not really sure that's possible tough. Do you think there would be any problems with the power supply /overclocking support on the motherboard / ram quality.

Is this a good idea? If not, what what do you recommend? I was looking at tigerdirect.ca, but they don't have any 8800 gt in stock. Maybe I can buy from newegg and get it ship over the border (with 15% taxes at customs).

My budget is basically around 1000$ I was thinking about a cheap C2D or quad core that I could overclock. I guess a quad core would bust the budget though.

Overclocking options on Dells are non-exsistent, a few have been able to overclock some using a windows program like clockgen but it's a long shot don't count on it. And you would most likely need to upgrade the PSU to support an 8800gt. Also that 1333 FSB chip with ddr2-667 ram would have very little o/c headroom even if you can find a way to overclock it.

For $1000 canadian you should be able to build a nice rig including an 8800gt, finding one instock right now is another matter.

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L $104.34

E2180 2ghz $97

OCZ 2gb ddr2-800 $51.14 AR

Antec Sonata III case w/500w PS $108.99 AR

EVGA 8800GT superclocked $299.99 IN STOCK!!!!

WD 500gb hard drive $125.25

LG sata DVD-R $38.70

XP Home oem $99.55

$924.96 CAD

This would be very overclockable and a better option than the Dell IMO, and already includes the price of the 8800gt

Either one should easily overclock over 3ghz, and is a good budget pick. If you want one of the 4mb chips I would skip the E6550 and get the E6750
