Hey everyone,

I just purchased a pair of Grado SR80s and would like to know how to optimally break them in.

1. How many hours should I break them in for? Does it matter if the break in period is continuous?

2. Is there a genre of music that provides a better break in sound?

I will use these headphones to listen to pretty much every type of music and will also use them to game.

when i got my sr60s i emailed them and i was told to just listen to whatever i wanted, they'd break themselves in.

Just listen to the music you'd generally listen to. Other than that, i left my headphones on when i was away so that they'd get more of a chance to "stretch," or whatever the term is.

It is generally accepted by most audiophiles as well as the companies that actually make high quality headphones that breaking headphones in does indeed make quite a big difference on quality phones.

However if your talking about the crap that came with your walkman or mp3 player, then it doesnt matter. Those headphones are crap, always have been crap, and always will be crap.

To the original poster:
If you search aroud the net you will find many different strategies on breaking in phones, and they should all work fine. However just listening will break them in, it will just take longer....

Leaving them on at a moderate volume while you are away should accelerate this process.

Find a tone generator & burn yourself a CD with a stereo tone sweep (0-20K Hz or something like that).

Set it on a moderate volume, let it run for a day, then increase the volume & let it run for another day.
