Help: Borderlands & Win7?

Nik

Lifer
I have to reinstall it every time I close out of the game. I can play it once, but when I go to play it a 2nd time, I choose a save game, it loads, and right when I spawn in it locks up.

I've tried patching it, installing to different logical drives, different physical drives, tried updating video drivers, tried "fixing" directx, I don't know what else to do.

I like the game, but this reinstalling bullshit is ridiculous. I don't know what else to do 🙁

I honestly have no idea. Try running chkdsk to make sure you don't have hard drive errors. You should probably post this on gearbox's forums.

I ran it on Win7 and didn't have that problem, but all in all the game is a buggy mess. Can you join other people's games online? The problem seems like it could be tied to your save games. Have you tried moving/deleting your Borderlands save game folder when you reinstall to see if the problem still happens?

No, I haven't moved the folder at all. If I can uninstall, reinstall, and play my continuing game via existing save games, the problem isn't my save game files.

Not sure how you'd come to this conclusion...

I'm playing on W7 with no issues, other than a lock up here or there when Steam decides to pop up a news or sale window but that happens in other games as well. Are you playing via Steam?

Why do people like you even bother posting in these threads? You are completely clueless and unhelpful. You even admit you have no clue, and yet insist on putting in your 2c on a "solution" that makes no sense whatsoever.

OP: Seen this thread?

No, this is a stand-alone install.

Wow, thanks 🙂

Unfortunately, now I'm having problems launching the game. If I check the system logs, I see this:

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0.

It happens with both my drives and one of them is brand new. I really hope my mainboard isn't taking a dump...
