Help: Blocking pop-ups with "hosts.dat"

Hi,

I remember a while back someone posted on how to block pop-up advertisements with the "hosts.dat" file.

They also included a file that included blocked addresses for most of the major perpetrators.

I'd like more info on this, and the file if possible.

Thanks!

You can block the popups (and almost all other advertisments) by editing your "hosts" file. It has no file extension. Kazaa Lite has the information you want. Just click on their "supertrick" link at the top of the page. Let me know if that link doesn't work (the Anandtech effect shut the server down a while back). Unfortunately, I think that site has popups. Just remember that this will block even legit advertising (ie: the advertising that you might want to see).
