Hi.

Specs: Nvidia FX5600 256mb
Sony SDM-S73 17 inch LCD
XP home

Ok so my computer froze from normal use and I had to reboot. Once booted, my screen goes completely blank and my monitor goes into standby. I had to go into safe mode and uninstall my Nvidia drivers for the computer to be able to boot normally. However, with the Nvidia drivers uninstalled, the screen does not look right with certain areas of the screen smudged. The screen is also very slow just scrolling a webpage in Internet Explorer. I have tried to install the newest and an older version of the Nvidia drivers, but my my screen would once again go blank after the XP loading screen. In fact, my screen actually goes blank during the installation process of the newest Nvidia drivers. The only way to restore this would be to once again go into safe mode and uninstall the Nvidia drivers. I am currently using the compute without any video card drivers and it is getting to be very annoying. My computer was working just fine with the newest Nvidia drivers a few hours ago. Could someone please suggest anything I could do, other than a format? Help would really be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there.

Some of the newer monitors out there have display drivers as well, and the SDM-S73 is a good example. You probably already know this, but make sure you visit this link to make sure you have this downloaded & installed:

Other than that, as I also recommened to another poster - you can try to run Driver Cleaner before installing your new video drivers, to clean out all the other drivers that are installed. You can also try older versions instead of beta drivers.

Definitely try searching the video forum for resolutions as well, as this is definitely a video issue. Best of luck.

Ok I managed to fix the problem. Thanks for you help anyways. Incase anyone else runs into this problem here is what I did. It appears that my VGA out is fried. So I bought a DVI to VGA adapter and used the DVI out instead.
