I just put together a new system last night and encountered a lovely problem: my system BIOS shows an incorrect amount of installed memory

Here are the components in question:

Motherboard: Asus A8V Deluxe (w/most recent 1013 BIOS)
RAM: OCZ 2GBs (1024x2) OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K

...what to do now :(

Edit

The BIOS reports 1536MB of installed RAM and not 2048mb as it should.

You shouldn't be posting this in multiple forums. That's a BOZO NO-NO.

I asked the same question in your post in the troubleshooting forum, which is where this question belongs.

Sorry, Penguin. It's just that I have only today to figure out where-in the problem lies because I'm running out of time to RMA something if necessary.

Agree. Also, try each stick by itself, in each slot. See if it shows as 1024MB each time. Have you checked any forum or FAQ for ASUS (or the manual) about this size of RAM?

As far as compatibility and such - it's golden. I even know someone running these exact parts and they get the full 2048mb readout. I'll try booting with a single DIMM and see what each reports...I'm beginning to suspect someone might've swapped the DIMM with a 512MB and just switched the heat spreader/sticker...nah, I'm not paranoid

This just in:

I ran home and tested it because I couldn't wait any longer. One of my "1GB" DIMMs is indeed just a 512MB stick :|

What wonderful quality-control OCZ has in place!
