HELP! Being Taken Over by ANTS!!

Spooner

Now that the weather is getting warmer, it seems like we're getting attacked by pretty damn big, black, ugly fvcking ants!!!! Grrrrrr.... So disgusting, so annoying.

They seem to be localized in the kitchen area, and we've laid ant traps and done some moderate spraying.... to which they seemed to have calmed down a bit, but they're still there! They're crawling on the floor, up the refrigerator, and in the dishwasher (blech)

HEEEEEEEEEELP! What's the best way to end this madness??

chemicals and lots of them!

We've got small black ants that bite the crap out of you. Luckily they have just invaded the yard. A big pot of boiling water usually takes care of those hills they make. Either than or douse them with some homemade napalm.

Pay a hundred bucks and have an exterminator spray the interior wall base boards, and do the outside perimeter (and any nests inside of walls you may know of). They'll all be dead and gone for at least six months.

i'm having ant problems too :| but the traps are working in my case--numbers are slowly going down. sounds like you might have to call in the pest control people

Call an exterminator. In the meantime, use Windex on them. It is much better than Raid (or any other chemical) as it doesn't stink up the house, and it kills/paralyzes them instantly.

I have had problems with ants at the past two apartment complexes that I have lived at, and the only thing that will get rid of them is a visit from the Orkin man.

**no help to you in any way**

Came home from work, saw my cup which i had a soda in earlier had and ant crawling on it! So i went to look over and it and there was like 10 of the bastards on the inside of it TOTALLY DISGUSTING! So I grabbed the cup ran to my door and fricking chucked it right off my balcony it landed 5 feet short of the dumpster and I heard a loud CRACK and i havent had but maybe 1 or 2 ants since then. ~neverleavesadrinkoutagain!

FYI: Windex stains carpets, and believe me if you use alot of it, it sure does stink up the house.

I think they are taking over the world. We had a couple here n there so we went and got some traps and voila yesterday I had 30 crawling all over my kitchen. Then I'm getting back from dinner and 2 giant ants are on each side of the railing on the porch in front of my house. Just waiting for me. They were the size of like large medication (horse pills). We just sprayed the lower floor of our house for bugs, so now I think we may have to spray the upstairs.
Damn you dirty ants! Damn you to hell!

I'm not really a big fan of using Raid in the kitchen, but we have sprayed it around the outside of the house and we've laid a bunch of those ant trap things all around.

Is there anything else we can do that doesn't involve whipping out cash to a exterminator?

What you have are carpenter ants, traps will not work on them and the longer you ignore them the worse it will get.
Look around your house for rotting wood (trees, deck, roof etc...) and use Diazanon to spray the area, also use Diazonon crystals to form a barrier around your house(outside only), thats right, walk around your house with a can of crystals and make a line all around it.
Try to spend some time searching inside your house to figure out where they are coming in so you can tell the Orkin guy when you call him.

The rule of thumb with these little bastards is if you see one there are 20-40 more you don't see (how many did you see?)

"One thing is for certain, there is no stopping them. The ants will soon be here. And I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. As a trusted TV personality, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves."

Yeah, after doing a little research... carpenter ants is almost definitely what we have. They're all around the dishwasher, so I'm suspecting they're coming in somewhere around there.... gonna have to make a closer inspection.... like you said, this isn't something we want to let get worse 😱

How do you make homemade napalm?

Disolve styrofoam in gasoline.

Ah... Kent Brokman. Who doesn't love the guy? 😀

Ants like cool, dark places and damp/wet wood. Pull the dishwasher out, take a look for moisture/leaks. If appropriate, you might also want to take a look in the basement, at the ceiling(floor) area underneath where the dishwasher is for leaks, water stains or other signs of water damage.

BTDT. 🙁

I've got ants in my house as well, but the best way to clear them out is to clean up. They are looking for food (which is why you find them in the kitchen), but if they don't find any, they move on. I keep my kitchen clean during this time of year (I need the ants outside to open my peonies, so I can't destroy the colonies just yet), and the few that come inside are merely fun toys for the cats.

Carpenter ants, however, are a real problem. If you don't get rid of them, they can end up doing as much damage as termites. This page has some info on getting rid of them. Primarily you have to locate the colony and get rid of them at the source. Carpenter ants don't go for bait traps (the ones where the ants take the bait back to the nest) so they aren't good for killing the colony, you have to get it at the source the hard way.

I had the same problem, So I laid out ant traps and watched them eat the poison. really cool as I imagine the ants run around in pain before doubling over and die with all the appendages in the air. 🙂

Some actually get to carry the poison (or what I called payload) back to their nest and after awhile some drunken ones came back out for more.

ive used grant's indoor/outdoor ant bait with good results.. also use those once every 6 month outdoor perimeter insect control spray. seems to get the job done.

ANTS in my car!

So many ants that your eyes, says what's going on and then you see them..

Hundreds of them!

Damn I hate ants.

They're a big problem here (Davis).

ANTS!
