I am not well versed with copying DVDs so could be making seral mistakes.

Anyways, I used CloneDVD to make images of DVD movies. Sometimes the DVD movies were less than the 4.7 GB (rather 4.38gb)... but I retained the default of clone DVD to have the output of 100% quality... the images I think ended up being larger than the original DVD... but not sure abt that. However, when I burnt these images using either CloneDVD 3.6.1.0 or Roxio easy media creater, the resulting DVD-Rs play fine on computer but not on any of the DVD players I tested. I am using 16X verbatim DVD-R. I burn them at 4X on a fairly fast computer.
Where all am i making the mistakes?

Desperate or help.... :(

DVD's technically only hold 4.3gb of data, that is normal.

If it's playing on your computer it sounds like it's a good burn. I would expect the problem to be with the DVD player you are testing the disc on, either it cannot read burned media (some older DVD players can't read them), or it doesn't like the format (reads + or - but not both), or it just doesn't like the media.

I would try a different brand of media, and also make sure you try +R as well as -R discs.

WOW!
Talk about a lurker.

If you buy a new DVD player make sure the box says DVD-R/RW compatible.
You can actually get those at Walmart and Kmart these days. Mine is a Philips and it was only 45 bucks. (Heck, it even plays burned Dual-Layer discs.)

To add to jfall comments:

Go here, it's a user database of information on a lot of DVD players that can or can't play +/- disc or brand of disc. Good information there.
