help: back up files not opening

I burned a dvd-rw backup with JPGs and movies. After "burn successful" (although I forgot if I verified the data), the DVD contains the right amount of data (~4GB) and the right folder/files. But no files are opening! e.g. JPG files cannot be previewed/opened in paint.

I used a program CDCHECK to see if there were burning problems, but it reported none. Someone help me recover those files please!

(I also tried to read the DVDrw on two other computers and it didn't work either)

Does it let you copy the files onto your hard drive? If so can you view them from your PC?

Yep, they can be copied to hard drive. But even then, I cannot preview in thumbnails nor open in paint (which used to be possible).

edit: one thing I noticed: in "My Computer", the used space reads 1.84 MB only. When I open the folder to see it's properties, the result is ~4GB (as it's supposed to be). Does this give a clue?
