HELP - AUTOEXEC.BAT PROBLEM

Yesterday I installed a SB Live XGAMER 5.1 and a AIW Radeon in my machine. After installing the AIW I had a problem in that I got a windows proctection error. I was unable to get into windows. I guessed it might be the drivers loaded by the SB Live in the autoexec and remmed them out. Presto, evrything works again. - kinda. Whenever I crash or lockup my computer (numerous times during video software install) and reboot, I get the windows protection error again and I have to go into safe mode to rem out the lines. Eventually however they reappear.

I have even tried deleting the autoexec.bat altogether, and while this works eventually it gets recreated with the same SB Live entries. I am running WIN98 first edition, A7V Duron 600. Does anyone know how I can prevent the autoexec from being recreated, or any other way to solve my problem?

Thanks

Chris

Disable SB16 emulation in the Device Manager and the SB drivers should be deleted for ever.

Also . . . go into MSConfig and open System Configuration Utility . . . and uncheck the automatic boot cycle . . . then using the user controlled load sequence, make sure that Autoexec.bat and Config.sys are not checked at all. You don't need them in Windows.

Then go into the Start tab and review everything that is checked, and clean house.

BTW . . . disabling the SB16 Emulation in Dev Mgr does not get rid of the drivers . . . they are still there, but it does prevent them from being loaded in Windows . . . then all you need worry about is the DOS config files.

It has been a sad thing that such a good sound card as the SB Live does not have a dip switch or jumper that would totally eliminate that pesky, IRQ hogging, and useless (except for legacy DOS gamers) SP16 Emulation. :)
