I just got my x800xt aiw, plugged it in.. and theres those damn squares! They pop up in the background, and the contours of stuff is really messed up.

I have the latest drivers of both omega and ati [tried em both, didnt do much]. I dont overclock, have had my card for about a week, and my power supply is 600 watts.

pic

please help! [and i apologize if i wasnt allowed to post links from other places... i didnt know how to get the pic to show any other way]

dont know exactly what you meant, but heres what it says under agp bridge control:

aperture size 256 [it was at 128 incorrectly, and i changed it just now]
agp driving control [auto]
agp fast write [disabled]
dbi output for agp trans. [disabled]
agp master 1 ws write [disabled]
agp master 1 ws read [disabled]

frankly i didnt even kno there were agp controls in the bios lol

some other weird things i just noticed:
1. theres weird pixels in the bios
2. if i turn down the antialiasing, the square cubes go away [sorta], but then the contours get reallly awful

i was just going to ask about that. and also i was wondering what you would call my problem.. with the weird pixels and stuff.. so i can more clearly describe it to other ppl

I know with older chipsets it used to help improve performance and prevent BSOD's. But what about now? Does fast write still hinder performance? What's the deal?

Fast writes, if my memory does not deceive me, allow the gfx card to communicate directly with the main memory, without having to go through the cpu. It's a good thing to have enabled, as it boosts performance is some situations, but sometimes it can also cause problems and instability on some systems. Ususally fastwrites should be on, unless you're having problems. (which means in your case I'd have them off untill I figure out what causes the problems).

hehe i just ran atitool... the artifact detector screen is so cluttered with those yellow squares i could play chess on it. guess ima return it. thx for ure help!
