Help! Asus ux32vd won't boot into windows.

Last night I put the computer to sleep and this morning it was hot to the touch and the battery charging cable light was going on and off. I sleep on an electric blanket so I believe that at some point during the night it turned itself back on for whatever reason and the electric blanket heated it up.

Anyway, it doesn't boot into windows 7.

1. It gets past the Asus splash screen and then just has a blank screen. No HDD activity light. Keyboard backlight and LCD backlight are on though.

2. I can't even press the F keys to get into BIOS.

3. I took out the battery and pressed the power button a few times to discharge any capacitors. Plugged it in without the battery. Same thing.

4. I took out the SSD. Boots immediately into BIOS.

5. Put back the SSD. Doesn't boot again.

I don't have a CDROM drive and I'm in the middle of China without a Windows disk.

Without spare parts to swap it's hard to say if it's the SSD or the SATA controller on the motherboard that you boiled like Glenn Close would.

What you could do by spending a bit of money:
- get 2.5" external HDD enclosure for SSD to try to read files
- get platter HDD, USB CD-ROM, pirate copy of Windows to try to revive laptop

Well, I couldn't find an external CDROM drive but I have two enclosures, two rotary hard drives, the SSD in question, a USB flash drive, and I was able to download the Win7 image off of the internet.

I have access to a WinXP computer that is literally 100x slower than my modern computer.
What I realized is:

Win7 can't be installed and can't boot from a USB drive. Well, it can, but it requires a Microsoft tool that requires two prerequisite software that won't install on the WinXP machine. So no go. There is no way for me to boot from a Windows disk of any type. No way to repair the windows installation. This is a huge fucking oversight by MS, needing optical media or a second modern computer to fix it's own OS. This shit needs to be self contained - either have the ability to rescue and repair itself built into the same hard drive, or be able to download a simply program that installs Win7 on a flash drive.

Luckily I have an Acronis backup from a long time ago, and from a different computer, no less. So I'll try to restore the image onto this new computer using the dissimilar hardware feature that Acronis has. Been waiting hours for Acronis to download and another 45 minutes for it to install on the XP machine.

If the actual hardware of the computer is fucked and can't boot regardless of the software, I have literally wasted 20 hours so far and will need to take a one hour bus ride to town and drop $1000 USD on a new warranty-less computer in China.
