Help:!! AOL IM -- using IM Image transfer both of Us installed Routers and now we can't send images or Direct Connect??

We use IM image transfer all the time and we both just installed routers, now Neither of us can Direct Connect to image transfer. I have checked all the firewall settings on both the routers and Zone Alarm (which we both use) Why can't AOL IM direct connect anymore?

Thanks in Advance!

The fix is two fold, for each of you.

First, configure AIM to send/receive through a specific port. I don't know where it is in the options, but look around, I know it's there

Second, configure your router to forward traffic on that port to your machine.

For example, your IP address is 192.168.1.10, and you chose port 1234 in the AIM options. In the router configuration, you would then choose the port range of 1234-1234, click the check marks for both UDP and TCP, and enter your IP address it the last box. It will have the first 3 already entered (192.168.1) you just add 10 in the last box. This is how my linksys router works, yours may be different.

Good luck... hope this helped.

what he said is correct. you have to allow it to pass through your router. do what he said

I can help wth the direct connect cause I run a HUB

seeing as you are now both behind routers (firewalls) you have to place yourselfs in "PASSIVE" mode to be able to DL file lists and stuff. but remember passive mode cannot get from passive mode. if you are running a HUB you have to pass port 411 through your router like stated above.

Yeah, Nickel and I have been trying everything to allow it pass. I ve found the aim direct conneting port # but it asked for IP address on aim chat. I have no idea where can i find it.

I use wirelss netgear Router, Nickel uses Wireless Dlink router... I don't understand why it still won't allow me. Before, I installed the router, it works wonderful with his router. Now we can't direct connect with my router. I am not sure if it's my router only or both?

I know it has nothing do with Zonealarm Firewall. I know it's the Router firewall. I tried to enter port nbr in it but nothing works. We are so frustrated with it.

Any suggestion would be nice...

Thanks,

BTW, I've never been able to get AIM file transfers/direct connections to work through a router (except with the latest beta). A friend and I put both of our computers on DMZ on our routers and it still didn't work.

yeah, that's right .. if you are using DC++ or BCDC++ just get into Active mode

fire up the router and name it DC++ or similar and when it asks for a port range or specific port, 1412 and enable UDP and TCP
open DC++, under GENERAL TAB | Active -> put in your real outside IP and port 1412

i've done this for months and i ran a DC hub as well. I could grab passive and active filelists and download and upload on either.
