Help! Any good program to convert Xvid to mpeg?!

Hi,

Anybody can recommend a good program that can successfully convert Xvid codec movies to mpeg format, so I can play them on my slower pc?!

I tried a program called avi2mpeg, but it said that the codec was not found, which doesn't make sense since I installed it and can play Xvid movies, however I have stuttering because I have a slow PC, therefore I need a working program to convert them to mpeg format.

The program should work with Windows 98, cause that's what I still use!

Thanks for all good recommendations!!

Try WinAVI. It's fairly easy to use.

Couldn't you raise a few bucks and upgrade..? Even a second hand motherboard and cheap Celeron or Sempron chip should be fast enough to play xvid.

DIKO. It's mostly for DVD/SVCD creation but it'll do what you need. I'd say you should apply the "patch" detailed here but that would add significant time to your conversion. However, the quality would be arguably worth it.

Try upgrading your video card; not to top-of-the-line, but try to get in the 32mb card range if you aren't there already. Many times the problems with speed are actually caused by older video cards with far too little RAM. Though I should ask: how fast is your computer?
