HELP: All my EXE files are associated with MS Word!

White Widow

Ok, my little brother actually just called me with this, and I'm not sure how to restore the file associations. I guess he wanted to "look at the code" for World of Warcraft, so he set it to open with MS Word, and now all programs won''t run but instead just open with Word...

What is the easiest way to undo this???

Thanks,
Aaron

In Vista and probably in most OSs, there's a utility that specifies certain programs for opening certain files. For instance, a .doc file is opened with Word but if you wanted to, you could change that to .txt and all your .doc files would open with Notepad or Wordpad. Go to Help and Support or a similar Help file in whatever OS he's using and see if there is something that will change the files back to .exe. I don't do games so I can't say for sure what it might be but you'll recognize it when you see it. I would query "File Associations" to find the utility.

A second method might be to turn the computer back to the day BEFORE he changed that association, e.g. System Restore/Recovery.
