HELP ACPI problem and sound problem on NEW Install on board system

OK, I have a Biostar M7VKG KM133a board. I am using the onboard sound and video, and added a Ethernet card. It has one slab of 256mg Crucial SDRAM, a 1Ghz Duron, and a 300watt power supply.

When I tried to put on Win XP it says the ACPI is not supported update the BIOS or disable it. Well I updated the BIOS and it didn't help. So I just pressed the F7 key and disabled it. Now when I installed XP the computer is VERY slow and the sound is very choppy and bad. And I guess when the ACPI is disabled it will not turn the computer off by itself?


Any body know what to do?

Is this one of the KT133A chipset boards? If so, I think there has problems reported running XP with this chipset. Have you tried W2K or ME to see if the problem persists? Also, might want to check Biostar FAQ's if they have them for your board.

Yea I was, why should that matter?

And it is a KM133a chipset. Same as the KT133a but with on-board video. I updated several computers with the KT133 and KT133a chipset with Win XP.


So any ideas

Where I work we build machines using that same board and pre-install XP, so have no fear that the board is compatible (despite what Acer says). We never have a problem UNTIL one of our customers decides to reinstall Windows and they have a USB keyboard plugged in.

Apparently, the native Legacy drivers for USB keyboard is what is not ACPI compliant in XP. Use a PS/2 keyboard (or an adapter) and reinstall. You'll find yourself skating right through the install without an error.

Wacky little XP compatibility issues with XP's native drivers are pages long... trust me. 😉

 
Yea I tried a PS2 keyboard and mouse and it seemed to work.
I don't know why, I have installed WIN XP on several computers with this keyboard. Guess its a Biostar thing, but seems to be going now.
