Help, about sharing the cable modem

I have two nic in my computer, one for cable modem, the other for my home network. I find if I enable the second nic(home network), my cable modem can't connect to internet, but ping(anywhere) works. My cable service is ATT roadrunner. can anybody tell me how to fix it.
Thanks

something must be screwy. do you have assigned ips for your LAN or dhcp?

is your isp dhcp?

it would be my thoughts that if you can ping, your cable modem is working (otherwise you wouldn't be able to ping "anywhere&quot😉, so make sure your IE settings are set properly per se ISP's directions.

I can use my cable modem for about 20 minutes. after that, It fails to connect. actually sometime ping doesn't work.If i reset my cable modem, It works again. but after about 20 minutes, It doesn't work again. I am not sure if it is the problem of my modem or the cable company has some trick to detect that i am sharing the cable. My nic for the cable is set to use dhcp. the nic for home network has permanent ip, and I use sygate as the route.

the cable company probably doesn't care if you are shaing the connection. try this, uninsatll sygate, then see if the connection still goes bad in 20 min. if it does, then call the cable company and complain, if it doesn't, then you know it has something to do (probably) with your system.
