Hi,

I'm having some difficulties installing my KR7A-133 mobo. Short
description is that the reset led comes on and stays on when I power up
the machine. I immediately shut it off, fearing there might be a bigger
problem and may damage something.

About 2-3 weeks ago I attempted to install it for the first time and
the CPU stopped working within 30 mins with proper cooling. I RMA'ed
both components and received a new CPU (Athlon XP 2000+) but the mobo
was returned stating it had been found to be still operational. So
assuming they did test it and they are right, what would cause the led
to come on when I hit the power switch? The CMOS reset is in normal
position, the reset switch is not even plugged in.

Here's what I did:

1- Installed Alpha PAL8045 standoff to mobo.
2- Put Artic Silver 3 on CPU core and isntalled on mobo
3- Installed heatsink to mobo stand offs (until spring prevented me to
screw any further) and attached on top delta fan.
4- Installed 256MB PC2100 DDR 166Mhz in BANK 0
5- Installed ATI Radeon 8500 videon card in AGP slot.
6- Laid mobo on box to prevent short circuit.
7- Plug the power switch and speaker. Those are the only cables on
PIN 1 and PIN 2.
8- Plugged Power Supply (Enermax 465P-VE I think).
9- Plugged keyboard, mouse and video.

Thanks,

Eric

I thought that it was a problem also when I installed my KR7A-RAID. When I looked at the back of the motherboard the yellow LED had been soldered on crooked, which led me to think that there might be a problem. If you search the forums you should be able to find my post about it.

Anyway if you read the manual the yellow LED is for standby power and not reset, which means that as long as you have the computer plugged in the yellow LED should be on reguardless of whether or not the computer is turned on.

yeah... the yellow is for stand by power (+5V) and will always be on when PSU is connected; That's D14.
D16 is for the power on (green led). This one does come on when I press the power switch and remains on. D17
though is the one giving me grief. This is the reset led (red) and should like D16, come on when reset is pressed.
But since I didn't even connect the reset switch, why would this led go on? Abit replied saying I might be shorting
the mobo. I don't see how since it's sitting on the box it came in and I'm pretty sure there's no other metal parts
touching it. guess I'll be checking that tonight.

Any other ideas? Could this happen if I had a card that was burnt out or defective like the video?
