What do you mean with good case? What case is it? Is it a quality PSU?

Do you have motherboard ram etc or are you just buying CPU?

For what are you using your computer? games?surfing?office?

Welcome to anandtech. That power supply isn't going to be enough for a new system, assuming you're going to put a gaming video card in it. As far as which processor to buy, the E4500 and even the E4600 are slower than the A64 6000, at stock speeds. But, if you're an overclocker, they're the way to go. Once overclocked, they leave the 6000 in their dust.

thanks guys for replies .

but i don't get the logic behind overclocking.
To Overclock you need a good cooling system?

E4600 costs 120? + 50? cooling system = 170?

why not purchase a better cpu using that 50??!

I'm making a similar decision but between the 6000+ and the e6550 because I'd rather have the 6000+ than oc the slower Intel processors. the e6550 beats the 6000+ but is more expensive.

Not quite true. You can get 75% of the OC potential on the stock cooler or low cost aftermarket coolers. The last 25% will require a better cooler. Since you're talking euros, I'll defer to others as to their cost.

Tom's Hardware has stock speed CPU comparison charts [Athlon vs C2D] for the games you're likely to play, should help. Also, games like more cache, don't know why, so that would argue for the more expensive E6xxx, over the E4xxx and E2xxx series.

Edit: Here's a comparison of a E6750 and a 6000+, both about $200 here. To me, the ~10% performance difference is insignificant, unless you decide to OC. Change the game to suit.

Whether or not you need a higher performance heatsink just depends on how high you want to overclock. The E4x00's will do 3 Ghz with the factory heatsink. And the reason to overclock is because a) Intel sells their stock 3 Ghz dual-cores for ~$300, and b) these processors can be overclocked to much higher speeds than the fastest thing Intel sells. With that in mind, it seems to me like a 50? heatpipe heatsink is worth every penny.

edit: Oops, I meant pence.:D

You don't need an expensive cooling system to overclock Core 2 Duo architecture. Something like Cooler Master Hyper TX will be more than enough. Those can be had for $15. In addition, an intel motherboard at this time is slightly more futureproof since it supports quad core (and Penryn quads).

Of course if all you intend to do is browse the internet and word processing, then you can get a good amd motherboard with vga/dvi out and onboard graphics for under $100.

Finally, if you intend to play games and are on a tight bugdet, buy the cheaper system and invest the rest into the grapics card. However, given that I overclock and would want an easy upgrade for a quad core processor down the line, I personally wouldn't get the AMD system.
