First off Thanks for all of your help.

I don't keep up with computer technology so I am absolutely clueless on what to look for in both manufacturer's and equipment. I guess I am looking to put together a bare bones computer for now. My use of a personal computer will be for internet surfing, downloading and DVD conversions for storing and backing up DVD's. I currently have a (free from work due to bad HD) Dell 2.8ghz P4 with 1024mb of RAM and a Maxtor 160GB HD. Motherboard has audio and video which is fine with me for now. My problem is if I am converting a AVI to burn on DVD it slows the computer to a snails pace. I am looking to upgrade so I need suggestions on most for your money kinda deals, not the fastest most expensive new cool stuff. I have broadband internet up to 6000KBs if I typed the numeric correctly, modem is Motorola SB5120. I am thininkg about a wireless router if the DL speed doesn't suffer so any info on those would be helpfull as well. I would like a MB/Processor with built in audio, video and LAN. Is there a faster HD system, my work computer has a small cable and a differant power plug. I know nothing about firewire, raid etc... If there is a better style of HD I would look at one of those in average size and plan on a external large HD up to 1TB. I will need RAM to match above, is 2GB the right amount for XP PRO? Speaking of XP is it time to go to Vista and will it take advantage of a larger RAM and if so how much. I have an Antec case that is 3yrs old that I can use with a (good quality also Antec IIRC) 350w power supply, let me know if I need a larger unit or if there is a great buy too good to be passed up on a new case.

I hope this isn't confusing, if any more info needed please ask. I can follow the directions well and learn fast to put the parts together and load the software, but I don't understand anything advanced other than following step by step instructions.

I'd go for an amd dual core cpu and 780g chipset board with onboard video. ddr2 is still cheap; go for 2 gigs. The 5200 cpu is about $77 retail at newegg; same for the 780g in ecs brand; 2 gigs of pc6400 will run you about $50; total will be about $200. For the power supply, try it. You may not need to upgrade if not overclocking using the onboard video.
