Pretty much like the title says. I tried one, liked it, figure to maybe get into it a little more. What kind should I buy? Does matches/lighter make a difference?

All that kinda good stuff.

Macanudos. That's all you need to know.

Oh, and get a nice Zippo and learn some tricks with them. That's always good for impressing people. :)

One of my friends that worked at the Tinder Box told me Davidoff cigars were pretty good. I tried them and liked it. That's about as far as my knowledge goes.

1. Split the cigar down the middle.
2. Empty all tobacco out of cigar.
3. Fill cigar with something better.
4. Lick the edge and roll back up.
5. Enjoy.

1. Don't bother trying to track down Cubans. They're not all that for the $.

2. Go to a tobacconist. Tell them you're a n00b. They'll probably suggest something mild like Ashton or Macanudo. Both are good.

3. People will tell you all kinds of crap about how you're supposed to light the cigar. I don't think it makes much of a diff.

4. Get a humidor or smoke what you buy within a few days. They get nasty when dried out.

Macanudos are tasty.... I really like the Arturo Feunte Hemingway (I think that's the name of it, I know it's Arturo Feunte). I started on good old Tampa Sweets and went on up from there! Don't smoke much nowadays though :(

Just keep trying different ones. Preferably keep a record of the ones you like and don't like and why.
As with wine, cost does not always equal quality.
The purists use a cedar splint to light up. You will do fine with a butane lighter. Wooden matches aren't bad, but let them burn for a few seconds to burn off the chemical taste. Zippos, of course, work great in the wind, but you can always taste the naptha. Yech.
Try not to set the end on fire.

And smoke slowly. Relaxing is the whole point.

Swishers are NOT cigars. They're the AOL of the cigar world.

I know, that's why I said cheap cigars. They're not even full-size.

I'm not a huge smoker so I've only had a couple cigars, and most of them weren't real cigars. As you so very nicely put it, they were the AOLs of cigar world haha.

If you're interested in something sweet tasting, I'm a huge fan of ACID cigars. That's all I generally smoke. Very tasty!!

Macanudos are the cigar of choice by noobs. Not to say avid smokers dont like them, but they are the first to be recommended and usually what some tend to stick with.

For me its Monte Cristo and La Glroia Cubana.

H.Upman, Punch and V(5th) Centenials are where I started.

As for Cubans. If you get the right cubans (i.e. Monte Cristo #2's) and they are not fakes bought in tourist spots, they really do have an edge to them no other cigar can provide.

Fuentes are one of my faves. I haven't had a stogie in years tho since I just couldn't deal with the ashtray mouth the next day.

Hey, I've been smoking cigars for a few years now and these remain some of my favorites. Granted, they aren't the absolute best, but they're a nice cigar for a good price. Sort of like how you can still have a craving for a double cheeseburger instead of a fillet mignon steak.

And if he's just starting out, I think a Macanudo or Ashton is about as heavy as he can handle.

That's why I switched mostly to pipe smoking. I don't know what it is technically, but for some reason I can smoke a pipe for hours and neither my house nor my mouth have that lingering stale smoke odor that cigars always seems to leave.

If you like Macanudos, and you're too cheap to keep them in stock (me)... check out the M1 by Cusano. $1.99 for a Robusto and they're pretty damn good.Text
