I just finished establishing a connection with a Linksys WAP11, an Orinoco Silver card and a 6db gain antenna that plugs into the pc card. Forget the Linksys PC cards, cause they really do suck. I ran power and cat5 up into my attic, and with the little PC card antenna, I can get nearly full strength signal at about 120ft, which is as far as I went, but it should go even more with ease.
If you are just using wireless between two houses, you can get an AP in each house and a directional antenna to point at each other. That is cheaper than a PC card, antenna and PCI adapter.
I have another neighbor who wants to share in on this, and the cheapest way to attach his network to mine is with a PC card and PCI adapter, and then run ICS for his computers.
No matter what, it is fun just testing this stuff.
