HELP 98SE/IE5/Outllook Express- Getting chimes for incoming mail?

I have sounds enabled for in coming mail, and get chimes only when I open Outlook Express, not hen I'm on the web. I would like to know when I have mail while I'm surfing via chimes and/or mail in tray. Have tried help w/o success. Your suggestions for this point appreciated! Thanks

Outlook and Outlook Express need to be running in order for mail notifaction to work. Being "on the web" has nothing to do with it. If you would like email notification in tray, you will need to set up a 3rd party app to check for you (There's freeware specifically for that and some messaging apps such as AIM or ICQ can be set up to monitor pop3 mailboxes). The quick and easy solution is to just leave OE running as it doesn't really eat _that_ many resources.
