HELP! 5.1 sound not working with abit nf7-s!?

I have had this problem for a long time and have never been able to resolve it! I have 5.1 logitech speakers not the best ones they were like $70 a year ago but they aren't bad. I have an Abit Nf7-S board and am using onboard sound and I have had SOOOOO much trouble! Just recently I found out how to get my rear speakers working on their own channel... i have to plug the orange jack into the black port and the black jack into the orange port!!! WTF!? I have used nvidias NVswap and NVmizer with no luck! Besides this problem I can't get the center speaker to work! only works in the "matrix" mode on the speaker. When i use NVmizer and i go to setup i can hear sound from each of the proper speakers but when it gets to the center instead of there being a static noise there is a high pitch whine?
What might he problem be and how do i fix it?! and buying a pci soundcard (or usb etc) is NOT an option! lol

thanks in advance everyone!

To have six channel sound with all channels directly fed from the mobo, you need three connections not two. One will be front rt/lft, 2nd is rear rt/lft, 3rd is center/sWoof. With only two connections you need to set the sound driver settingl for 4-channel instead of six and the speaker set itself has to provide the filtering/decoding for the center channel and sWoof.
. Have you gone to the Abit web site and looked at the FAQ for your mobo for guidance is setting up the audio. The nVidia site might also be useful.

I do have 3 connec tions, the green cable to the front spekers i thoguht were obvious i have not had a problem with those lol

The center channel is working, it's just not being sent a signal for most things. If you had some 5.1 source (a DVD perhaps), then it should be fine. Otherwise, you might have to make it create a center channel, and you'd do that by adding some registry key I can't remember right now.

What programs/applications/games are you not getting center channel sound from?

Edit: I just checked to make sure I'm not crazy, and FarCry is in fact outputting 5.1 sound (complete with center channel, according to nvmixer and its VU Meters). It's most likely whatever sources you're using. I could go look up that registry key later if you'd like.

any sound progream so far, mp3z being played through winamp, itunes, and windows media player.
I unfortunatly do not have a dvd player so can't try that and i have very few games but i will try them out in a little bit
what is the reg key supposed to do exactly? create an artificial center channel or activate it? if you could help me with that too iw ould greatly appreciate it!

I have an NF7-S and the ports are mislabeled on the I/O shield. I can't remember the eaxct config. I assume you are using SS...use their config program to get the speakers set up properly.

I am using the NVmixer since i guess it replaced the soundstorm program? not sure where to get soundstorm anymore or if that would even help. I ran the config program in nvmixer though and like i said it all works with the high pitch whine coming from the center speaker.

SHAZAM! 😀 Try this Click start>run>regedit>find>"createcenter">change to 1> reboot. Most of the issues with SS can be resolved by reading the FAQ HTH 🙂

What speakers? I don't remember which is wrong; I think it's the motherboard - it's color coded backwards. Green to front, orange to rear, and black to center/subwoofer. That was with Logitech Z-640's. You mentioned Matrix, which makes me wonder if they are Logitechs that you've got. If so, don't use Matrix; it disabled my Center speaker when I finally got the sound working.

Duh, and I reread the first post, now I see that you found that out.
i have to plug the orange jack into the black port and the black jack into the orange port!!!

At any rate, mine is set to 5.1 speakers; NVMixer shows full 5.1 sound when I play an MP3 in Winamp, using the Directsound ouput plugin (that's the key to it - if you use the Waveout output plugin, you just get stereo).
And I just ran the speaker wizard - after getting a shockingly loud blast of static from my speakers, I also got a high pitch whine from the center speaker, so I guess that's normal.

THANK YOU DAPUNISHER!!!!!!!!!!
changing the "create center" value to 1 did the trick! i now have an actual center without using matrix! the VU meter in NVmixer displays it and everything. The only thign it does not display is the bass but it does so in the setup test? regardless i can hear the base so

thank you all for the help!!!!!!!!
