Also when you place IHS over die you need to offset it a bit towards the hinge as when you move clamp arm down the tabs move down as it clamps, moving the IHS a bit .

Maybe that is a issue too .

Yeah, i noticed that when i first tried to clamp it after re-delidding, and had to hold the IHS down while clamping to stop it moving.

I will have to get better/more appropriate TIM to put between the die and IHS... like Liquid Metal Ultra, to stop any pump out under heat.

Just re-delidded it again... temps are back down to around 70C. But i guess its only a matter of time before they start to creep back up again.

The interface between die and IHS must be particularly susceptible to pump-out. Perhaps this problem is characteristic of all direct-die mounts, though I do not recall it being a problem back when bare-die Athlons were the norm. Then again, heat production was nothing like it is now. Better knowing the characteristics of the factory Intel TIM might help solve pump-out problems. My surmise is that it remains semi-solid even at 100°C, making it more resistant to pump-out than aftermarket materials, which are easy to apply but probably suffer from reduced viscosity at high temperatures.

Did you try anything different this time?

I'm thinking I'm going to stick to 4.2ghz for now and do some real world testing. I can run my case fans at 700rpm and my H100i in quiet mode at this overclock. Dropped my TriX 290 in my rig today. Had to remove both drive bays from my Arc Mini as I didn't like the TriX resting on the bottom one. I figured it would somewhat cut off airflow to it. Glad I switched to SSD as my motherboard tray has two SSD mounts on the back of it. Only have a 250gb EVO currently. I'm waiting for a really good deal on a 500/512gb currently before adding a second one. Haven't done much testing with the TriX in the rig yet. Only a quick Valley run so far to see the temps. Looks tolerable so far. I usually run a custom fan profile on the TriX but haven't loaded Trixx yet. Currently highest core was 52c and gpu was 77c with vrm around the same temp.

Yeh, well that was the last of my thermalright chill factor 3 and i suspect its only a temp fix - so i will have to buy something better with higher viscosity at higher temps, like liquid metal ultra.

No, not really anything different, but i did put some small squares of paper on the backplate for the H100i because i noticed that there was a small gap, so i thought adding some paper on the back would give a bit extra pressure... But everything else i did was pretty much the same, i just was more careful and tried to put on the heatsink as level as possible - which isnt easy.

I also downed my OC to 4.2Ghz, at a lower voltage of 1.118v - figured it would help to slow down any pump out effect over time because of the lower temps.

Good to know your TriX is finaly being used. Personaly i only have a 120GB SSD, but looking upgrade in the future, my current one is just fine for the time being - i only use it for windows, all my games and stuff are on seperate HDDs, its a fast SDD - im on desktop in under 15 seconds with everything loaded.

What score do you get in valley? I cant remember what my score was...

Didn't pay attention to the score but think it was 24xx on the HD preset. Wednesday I'm off so it's system tweak day for me. I'm going to refresh 8.1 first as too many bsods during the profile adventure too trust the install. Egg has 500gb evo for $210 after coupon which is tempting me.

I just ran the benchmark on extreme HD preset, i got 2976. 500gb evo, not bad for the price... think id be tempted too if i was looking to buy one.
