help!! 3400+ asus a8v

installed my computers a week ago.
3400+ AMD 64 Newcastle core. 939 sockets
a8v deluxe asus mobo

i bought them combo from tiger direct. i got problems, in which the computer wont even boot, but i managed to fix it by flashing the bios and got it to work.

now, the computer reboots randomly and after it restarted, there's a pop up saying that the computer just recovered from a serious error.

the times i remembered when it reboots is when i cancelled antivirus scan, when i changed my computer's name in system property.

in power option, i set it so that it won't go to standby on any occasion.

CPU temp is 30 C.

one more thing. i can only get the computer to work if i set the HT speed at 200MHz and the overclock speed at standart. if i change it to any higher, the computer will just go to standby mode everytime i start the computer

is it just me or is this a really weird problem?
please help me solve this problem.

PS: i swapped all my comp parts to my old computer and everything works perfectly, except for the mobo and the cpu, which i didn't test because i dont have extra socket 939 cpu or mobo.

hes using the fortron bluestorm 500w psu. liljoker is a frnd of mine. ive been working on his rig as well. the problems he is having is quite strange. here is what i did. i helped him out by testing various combinations of things. i set his hypertransport bus to 200mhz down from 1000mhz. i noticed the ai overclocking option set on auto, so then i changed that to standard, hoping that would fix things. when in desktop, i changed the power consumption options a little. i disabled the standby option. that seemed to help a little. but then, on random occasions, it just reboots out of nowhere, without warning. sometimes you can tell when the mouse is limited to being able to move left and right even if you move your mouse in some other direction. another strange thing is that, after several hours of load on the cpu with prime95 torture testing, it seems to be able to take it just fine. not just the cpu, but we tested the psu and ram as well with the other torture test options. just for the record, he is also using a zalman cu7000alcu hsf and mushkin enhanced 512mb pc3200 value series ram. we slapped on artic silver 5 thermal paste on the cpu.

ummm isn't newcastle s754, while the a8v is an s939 board?

the 3400+ newcastle s939 is a silent release from amd. besides, if it were a s754, which it definately isnt, the system would not boot. the cpu isnt missing a qhole square of pins like the s754. labeled 3400+ on it. ran cpu-z and showed newcastle 3400+ @2.2ghz.

what montag451 means is that the reboots are probably the result of XP crashing and there should be a log of the error in the event log. you can access the event viewer from control panel->administrative tools->computer management->event viewer-system logs

you might also want to change the startup and recovery options so that XP will blue screen instead of just rebooting - that way you can at least get some more information as to the cause of the restarts. If the machine blue screens (BSOD) make a note of the STOP code then do a search on the microsoft support site or put a message on the forums

startup and recovery options are set via control panel->system->advanced->startup and recovery->settings, untick the box that says 'automatically restart' and make sure there's a tick in the box that says 'write an event to the system log'

Kinda new to forums, posted originally in Mobos section but maybe this belongs here ...

Not sure if this problem is due to distributor, bad hardware or bad luck. Ordered a Asus8V and Athlon 64 3400 + combo from tigerdirect. Excitedly I put the system together and booted. I received "Cpu Overclock" error message from Asus Post reporter. So I double checked Asus manual and it says hold "del" down to enter bios and correct this problem. Easy right ? Well holding "del" to no avail. Reboot and retry. I notice caps lock nor num lock will bring up little green light on my keyboard to show it has power. Known good working keyboard. I unplug and replug keyboard and notice green lights on the keyboard flash. Maybe it is an old keyboard. Borrow neighbor's keyboard. Same result. So I need to enter bios to fix problem but for some reason this motherboard doesn't seem to be allowing my keyboard to work so I can get into bios. Yes, I did check the kbrpwr jumper. Well let me try to flash the bios. Flash bios. Same result. Call Asus. Twice. Three times. Always get someone who says they will call me back when they get a chance. This was before Christmas. As of today I am still waiting. So I contact vendor and they send new motherboard out right away. Same result. So I order new processor and it gets here last night. Same result. So I can't boot because according to Asus Post report the Cpu is overclocked. I need to get into bios to adjust it but I can't get into bios. With two boards and two processors I am ruling out coincedence. If anyone has any ideas I would be more than willing to try. I have built my last two comp's. I just can't understand in two different motherboards why I can not get into the bios when the manufacturer manual <can't talk to a real person if they don't call me back :disgust: > says I should be able too. Have you read the mobo manual completely?

Always easy to miss something simple, like a jumper in the wrong position, for instance.
Familiarise yourself completely with the mobo. = take it out of the case, lay it on the antistatic mat that came with it, plug in psu and cpu/fan, see what happens.
Look at all the jumpers, see if you can id them successfully.

Take time, relax, if it still doesnt work, then sleep on it

Yeah I have read over and over that manual just to make sure. My old socket A board is asus too. I am fairly smart, and re-checked and re-checked jumpers. I just can't figure it out. I got return codes but then I am just back where I started, with no computer :-( Thanks for the suggestions Montag451 !

im sure you have tried this, but have you tried resetting the CMOS jumper settings? also where are you plugging in the keyboard? USB or PS2?

did u get the replacement mobo for free? try to get a different kind of mobo, like a abit av8 socket 939 or msi k8n neo platinum mobo

also, if you want, try to get 3000+ or 3500 and try to replace is and see if it works.

i was gonna do it, but i don't have that kinda money. i spent all the money i had building this comp


also, speaking of my comp, for some reasons, whenever i try to play maplestory (yes, i play maplestory....) the screen just froze and the comp reboots after a while.
in occasions when the game works, whenever i get to the log on page, there's a pop up saying that my video card software couldn't keep up or something like that, and that my set up has been set to default.

this is really strange.... please help

These messages do not indicate an actual problem and are benign." The recommended solution is to install the latest Service Pack

Error: "The Dependency Service does not exist or has been marked for deletion" Attempting to start the service IIS Admin with arguments " " in order to run the server: (a9e69610-b80d-11d0-b9b9-00a0c922e750) - This is the most common error for this event. There are several instances where this can occur:

The error can be genereated when the Protected Storage, <a href="/termdisplay.asp?termid=1">RPC</a> Configuration, or Windows NT LM Security Support Provider is not started, is not installed, or has become corrupt. See q187710 and Q189649 for more details.

Another potential cause for this error is that the Windows NT LanManager (NTLM) Security Support Provider service is not installed. See Q218458 for more details.

Article Q249023 describes this error as showing up after the restart of Microsoft Internet Explorer for the second time during setup and the user logged in using an administrator account is different from the one used to start Internet Explorer Setup.

Exchange 2000 Server requires the IIS 5.0 services to be running in order to install and function correctly.

Another article that mentions this error is Q300319 but this is in fact a failure of MOM (the Microsoft Operations Manager) to load the proper event message file.

server - From a newsgroup post, this message start occuring after the installation of Zone Alarm (personal firewall). The fix was to start the Zone Alarm after the WWW service (either by a startup script or by making Zone Alarm dependent on the WWW service).

fasttx2k is the driver for the Promise Fast Trak SATA disk controller

I'd suggest you check your bios settings for the controller (is it in RAID mode and you're not using RAID)
reinstall the controller driver (check if there are two versions of the driver for IDE mode and RAID mode and install the right one)
check/replace the sata cable

we installed winxp sp2 first thing right away after getting to the desktop for the first time. we also installed all the drivers from the provided asus drivers cd. in bios, i changed it from the raid to ide option. there isnt any drivers to choose from on the cd. its either you install the fast trak or not. we did, but like i said, after that we changed the option in bios.

you installed the promise drivers, then you changed the bios settings?

reinstall the drivers, use the update driver button on the properties page for the device and insist that the drivers be reinstalled 'cause XP will probably say that your current drivers are up to date

we flashed the bios first, and then we installed the drivers. do you think we should reinstall all the drivers again?

also, wat is a fasttrack controller? since i can't get it to work in my comp, and i can't install the driver for the fasttrack controller

i had nothing but problems with that same mobo before i sold it... (the reason i sold it)


i would recamend an MSI K8N Neo platinum... i took my 3200+ out of the asus k8v and put it in the MSI and havent had any problems...
