Hi,

I have DELL Dimension 8100 has P4 1.5 Ghz,
Right now it has 256 MB of RAM and I would like to increase the RAM to 512 MB.

Architecture - RDRAM
RIMM sockets - four
BIOS address - F8000h (PC800)

CONFIGURATION:
two 128 MB in the first to slots(sockets) and the last two slots are CRIMMS

HERE:

1.) Four (4) 128 MB = 512 MB

or

2.) Two (2) 256 MB = 512 MB

Which of the two configuration would you recommend, the no. # 1 or no.# 2??
WHich is TECHNICALLY better???

Pls. any advice??

Thnx,
2Oliver

Hello and Welcome.

It's generally better to use larger modules as there are less modules to go wrong (although of course when one does, you have to replace more ram). Plus of course, you are left with a better upgrade path.

anyone know what "CRIMMS" mean?

Could you not just add a single 256mb module with the current modules, they don't all need to be identical.

You may want to check your motherboard manual or motherboard homepage to make sure you can use all four at once. If you can, you should just be able to add one 256MB module or ever a single 512MB module. I have just one 512MB module in mine

TheCorm ... He is talking about RDRAM and they have to be installed in pairs ... Just adding another single 256 Module will not work.

To answer the original question ... U can add 2 more sticks of 128 each if U are short on cash because RDRAM tends to be a bit pricey when compared to SDRAM and DDR. But as some1 suggested, I would go with 2 sticks of 256 If U can afford them and then in this way U still have 2 open slots for future expansion. Or just add 2 more sticks of 256 for a total of 768.
Hope this helps
