Hell's freezing over... Looking at Troopers, Monteros, and Land Rovers

Apparently prices for mid 90s SUVs are way down with the high gas prices. Not a problem for me because I don't anticipate ever having to commute more than 10 miles. This summer-fall I'm doing an internship in Wyoming so I'll need room to transport my stuff and 4wd for snow and light off roading.
I think I can get about $4000 for my 240sx so I'm looking at SUVs with low resale value- Trooper and Montero mainly. It turns out that Land Rover Discos are pretty cheap too.

And I found one with a MANUAL TRANSMISSION

How is the reliability for these vehicles? I know none of these is as good as Toyota, but I'm not paying twice as much for the sombrero badge and higher mileage. Land Rover scares me but that vehicle is everything I'd want.. Two solid axles, real 4wd system, manual, and not too many miles.
