Hello

Gerbil333

Diamond Member
Hi, I'd like to welcome myself to this forum! I've been a member of Sharky Forums since September 2000, and the MadOnion.com boards for probably the same amount of time.

I feel like a n00b all over again!

Anything special about this board? Stuff I should know? 😎

Welcome to Anandtech!

Here is some basic info:

Junior Member: 0-20 posts

Golden Member: 1001-2000 posts
Platinum Member: 2001-3000 posts
Diamond Member: 3001+ posts

Elite Member: This status is only given by the Moderators. Elite members are bestowed this membership by being a key contributor to the forum in some unique way. It is not dependent on post count. Elite members have had as low as 500 posts. The Elite members of this forum are important and get a certain amount of extra respect. You can "Nef" (see below for definition of Nef) your way to Diamond Membership, but Elite can only be achieved by adding to the forums in some extra fashion.

The Search Function:

Use it. Before posting something that could be considered general knowledge or easily accessed by the general public (i.e. you found it on the web), use the search function to see if it has been posted before. If it has, there is no need for a repost!

The word "Nef." (mostly seen in the Off Topic forum section)

If someone "nefs", they are posting a useless post with the intention, or apparent intention, of boosting their post count.

Troll (mostly in the For Sale/ For Trade forum section for first definition, or Off Topic for second)

A Troll is either

a) Someone who rips people off in either selling or buying. This can be for various reasons, such as sending a product that doesn't fit the condition of what they stated it was before, to sending a bad check to someone who sold them something. If you are going to deal on the FS/FT forum, make sure you aren't dealing with a Troll. Known trolls are posted in there.

b) Someone who posts a thread that is intended to get people angry at each other and arguing.

Hope this helps some and welcome to the Anandtech Forums!

Come join us in our SETI Team (or Dnet, or ECCp)! Right now we're in a race with DSLR and we could use your help. So come on over to the Distributed Computing forum and check it out. 🙂

Just remember to click the "reply" button only once 🙂 Been a while since I have seen a repost tho....

JetBlack69, you mean that one -------->

datalink7, thanks, but I knew all the general forum terms. I'm only a noob here -- I'm quite a 1337 member of other forums 🙂

jliechty, despite having this nice new Athlon XP 1600+, and two other systems readily available, I don't want to join. My system is for gaming, and that would slow me down. My other systems are only K6-2's. They wouldn't help you much anyway.

Evadman, don't worry. I'm not computer illiterate, and I don't repost.

I'm not a troll either. Infact, the reason I came here was to sell or buy things. I just want people to trust me first. There are people on Sharky's that would recommend me.

Yep, I think he is known as the Curtain Mod. J/K 😀

I kinda remember your name from sharkyforums, I barely posted over there since they got rid of off topic. I wanted to be a member here first, but I couldn't use a hotmail account. 😕

EDIT: where are my manners, WELCOME 😀😀😀😀😀😀
