Folding@Home Holiday Season Race is so called because it goes through the Holiday Season from December 1st to January 1st, through December 6th (St. Nicolaus feast, mostly celebrated in Germany and Czechia, Slovakia, Poland and other Slavic countries) December 13 (St. Lucia's feast (celebrated in Sweden), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Second day of Christmas (celebrated in Nordic countries), New Year's eve and New Year's day. It also takes part during Hanukkah (this year December 24 - January 1), the muslim holiday of Mawlid an-Nabī (December 12 or December 17), Rohatsu (Buddhist holiday in Japan, December 8), Milad an-Nabi (Hindu holiday, December 12).
There may be more holidays during this period, but I do not know about them.
Still, there are many feasts and holidays during December, and hence the name Holiday Season Race.
