This has been going on for a few months now. Basically, I am moderately dehydrated every morning (yellow piss, slightly swollen tongue/face, headache, etc) and I have to chug down a full glass of water before I can even think of functioning. I stay well (even overly) hydrated throughout the day (my piss is perfectly clear 9/10 times), take a multivitamin, and work out roughly every other day. The only anomalies in my lifestyle are as follows:

1. My diet has consistently high levels of sodium.

2. I am currently on medication for moderate (formerly severe) anxiety and depression. However, given that these symptoms were present before I started on the meds, I don't think they're the culprit.

3. Due in part (if not completely) to number 2, I have chronic insomnia. I'm on meds for this too, but 9/10 times I distract myself and power through them (That's psychological and IMO not directly related). My circadian rhythms are non-existent. Sometimes I'll stay up till 1:00am and sleep till 9:00, other times I'll stay up till 4:00am and sleep till 1:30pm .

I've spoken to both my general practitioner, psychologist, and psychiatrist about the above. The obvious way to eliminate number 3 as an option is to not fight the meds and go to sleep, but this simple task is one of the psychological barriers that I have yet to overcome (to use a cliche expression). I know it seems pathetically simple. Hell, even to me it's pathetically simple. It's completely irrational and it sucks.

Suffice to say, any suggestions as to the dehydration?

Note: Please don't ask what I'm anxious/depressed about unless you're ready for a long depressing (no pun intended), disturbing story.

Frankly, that's the only thing that will save this thread.

Thanks, but I didn't make the thread as an excuse to vent. I seriously just want to crack this dehydration shit and I needed to list all the potentially pertinent details.

Your very accurate description of the symptoms of a hangover just gave me a headache. :(

No clue as to the hard numbers. Diabetes runs in my mom's side, but I had some basic blood tests done (annual checkup), and my general practitioner told me over the phone that it was "normal".

could it be the meds for your insomnia? i remember seeing commercials for sleep aid pills on tv that say they can cause dehydration and some other things.

i'm not on any meds but i seem to be a bit dehydrated in the morning too.

do you sleep with your mouth open? any environmental factors, like a fan running or it being extra warm or anything like that?

if u can train yourself to get up in the middle of the night and take a few swigs of gatorade or water, you will feel much better in the morning. I went through this a few months ago, but it eventually passed and I sleep through the night fairly well now.

My mom can't cook (as in disabled), my dad's too busy to cook, my sister's off at college 95% of the time (like I should be, I'm currently on medical leave), and I (irrationally) don't have the willingness to cook (once again). That leaves take-out, which for me is primarily Chipotle, 5 Guys, Chick-fil-ete (sp?), pizza, Glory Days Grill, and a few sit-down restaurants that are too expensive for everyday take-out. No real way out of it aside from eating a salad. (I'm not opposed to vegetables, but they hardly fill me up).

How did you train yourself? I don't get to sleep easy, but once I do I might as well be comatose.

i sleep hard too, but sometimes you may wake up momentarily in the night. when you do, force yourself out of bed and guzzle some gatorade. you will crash hard right after and wake up feeling like a million dollars. the sudden wakeups will occur with more frequency.

not gatorade unless you want to gain weight.
