Hello adulthood!

Well I don't post too much on here anymore, but I felt the need to drop in and say I'm finally no longer a student!! It felt like this day would never come. I got a B.S. from U. Pitt in computer engineering and just got my final grades today. 3.34 QPA 🙂 Next week I'm going to start my new job as a senior C# software dev. I'm back at the parents' house for now but hope to move out by summer's end. Now I'm just trying to figure out if I should pay off my car before student loan bills start in six months...

Anyway, if you have any post-graduate suggestions for me on handling shit, please send it my way.

My ex-roomies and I graduated 5+ years ago, and they all still work at the university and live together.....

Unfortunately, (for now) only AS degrees in Accounting, Bookkeeping, and Business Management.
I hope eventually to transfer to the local CSU campus for my BS in Accounting. MOST of my accounting classes will transfer, I only need a couple of math classes and a few general ed classes from the CC to transfer in as a junior.. At this rate, I'll be 65 before I get the BS, but...wtf, why not? College has been a blast. I never thought it could be so much FUN!

Apparently, from what I see at school...it's great, but unfortunately, my wife won't let me play with the other children...🙁 She's pretty one-way about such things.

Always pay higher interest rate first unless you can easily eliminate extra payment. Good luck on your new career. It's a good feeling starting a career and becoming financially independent from the 'rents.

Once you get your debt tamed, consider looking at buying one of the many forclosures if you get enough coin to grab one up....interest rates aren't going to be low forever. It's a good time to start building equity. 😉

I had a larger-than-normal amount of internship experience, that combined with a good interview I guess got me a senior position.

That sounds exciting, BoomerD, persistence will pay off. 😉

Wrong. At least they are paying their own way and not on their parents bill. College grads who live at home are still children.

no more final exams/term papers/long term assignments that loom over your head nonstop (ie. if you pick the right job, you don't have to bring work home with you)

lack of time off sucks royally

for me college was lots of free time, no spare money
now its all spare money but no time

also, time starts to accelerate. not sure why, but it is definitely a phenomenon you will observe so enjoy each day because the next one will feel shorter!

Yep, I agree with this. Also with overtime you are making more money but have even less time so you spend even less.

I got a BS in CompE as well and I did well but college was full of free time compared to work. Plus there's the whole you have to go to work, when in college if you really didn't want to get up for class, then don't. 🙂

I want to start working towards a Master's degree soon, but taking more than even one class per semester while working full time seems like it would be really tough.

The bolded part always surprised me. Why people pay to take a class...then rarely show up doesn't make sense. I almost always gained quite a bit from the lecture, so in 2 1/2 years of community college, I missed a grand total of 2 classes...both for doctor's appointments (epidural injections) that I couldn't schedule around my school schedule. I had a couple of classes where attendance was MANDATORY. 3 missed classes and you were dropped, 5 tardies and you were out.

That's how it works where I go to school. Three absences equals an automatic failure.

Yeah I was gettin real sick of all that, became so hard to go through the process. At least at work I get to apply my skills instead of being forced to learn new skills I don't really need.
