Hellgate London

My brother is going to be giving me this game. Anyone have any quick tips and advice on the game?

People compare it to Diablo 2, which i just got back into. But i don't see it.

Will my hardware run it fine?

Good? Well considering the servers are now out of action, I guess not.

Fully patched up, it is an enjoyable bargain bin game which has without a doubt, the best DX10 implementation of any game I have seen to date. Graphical enhancements are significant and the performance hit for these enhancements is reasonable.

Hardware-wise, I am not clued up on the HD4830 so unsure but the rest looks solid. FYI, in the early days I ran it on an 8800GT at high levels with minimal trouble and on a 512mb HD4870 much later at which time it waltzed everything except 100% maxed DX10 with a lot of action going on.

Summary: Worth a go, should get a kick out of it but don't expect it to keep your attention for a huge amount of time.

No, well, you're asking so... I say no, it is not good, not at all, stay away from it, but since everything is subjective the best way to know for yourself is to try it.

Excellent single player game - make sure you get the last patch
- the multiplayer is gone since the servers are shut down this January except in Korea

Hg:L has the very best implementation of DX10 to date and is a very fun game

This was one of the most boring and repetitive games I have ever played. I bought it and forced myself to keep playing it, thinking maybe it will get better as it goes on, but it never did. I can't recomend it, as I couldn't bring myself to complete the game.

Titan Quest is much more fun, and far less repetitive. It doesn't have the same level of monotony to it, and I would consider it a better successor to Diablo 2.

It is like Diablo 2, except in 3D. The main draw of D2 is to find items and trade, so I'd think this game would only be fun online.

Huh, what? No, just no. If it would have been "Just like D2 but in 3D" we'd be playing D3 by now, or Hellgate: London would have been the best selling PC game ever since SC came out. There's no way you can compare D2 to Hellgate: London, it ain't "like it" just because you gather items. I could type a novel about this subject but I'll rest my case on this.

I played D2 for a long time. I played Hellgate London for a few hours. In my opinion, they are almost exactly the same, with the exception of the guns in Hellgate. There are towns where you buy stuff, randomized dungeons where you fight randomized hordes and collect loot. What else is there?

D2 was great and HG:L apparently is not? The previous poster was implying that if they were just alike, then HG:L would be great like D2 was great. I think that was probably his point.

Yeah and since HG:L ulltimately failed and D2 is still going... that says a lot.

Their concept is similar especially when you consider Flagship Studios had numerous members of staff who worked on Diablo 2 in its development team. Execution of the ideas into the gaming world were completely different between D2 (success) and HG:L (failure).

Implementation of a lot of features early on in HG:L were poor. The Demo was an abomination whereas the Private Beta test was reasonable for a Beta. Classes were poorly balanced and rather odd, overall culminating in a below average game.

they rushed Hg:L out with an AWFUL demo, a buggy SP and horrible MP
- that has become a guaranteed way to have an Epic Fail 😛

the SP campaign - now that it is finally patched is *decent* .. even the MP was COMPLETELY fixed before they took it offline [except for the new area, Stonehenge]

i recommend it .. MOST of the complainers here only have a very few hours into it and are parroting what others have said about it; things that were fixed long ago

So I installed it an hour ago and have been messing around with it and learning the ropes.

Game performance isn't even an issue. 80-120fps in open areas. 140-240fps in dungeons. All maxed out /DX10/AA/the works. It looks great.

Hopefully it'll keep my interest.

I agree with this

agreed. it is the most boring and repettive game ever. the only thing it has in common with D2 is that you can buy weapons in towns.
