This is exactly why Bush isn't releasing these people. He fears the public backlash over mistreatment of innocent people. Held two years without a charge, then released? Sounds Kafkaesque....

Why aren't the liberal media all over this story?

While I agree the U.S. shouldn't be holding people for years without charge or access to legal counsel, this story is horsesh*t.

Well, true, nobody here can say with absolute certainty it's true or false. However, based on all the evidence I have at my disposal, IMO it's horsesh*t.

we have lots of people condraticting one another and thats it

like I said in the other thread, we will probably know in 5-10 years what realy happened

If Bush isn't re-elected, I have a feeling we will find out very quickly after January 20, 2004.

Also, as they release people, expect to see more of these kinds of stories. And what about the military guys who are pulling these stunts? Some of them will start talking pretty soon and it won't be pretty. This happens in every war. We always have a few people who go nuts, and I'll bet the commander of that base is under intense pressure from the Pentagon! You know he is walking a very fine line-on the wrong side of the fence in my view.

If you're implying I get my information here, umm, that's just nuts. What goes on here can hardly be classified as discussion, it's more like people shouting past each other without any concern for logic.
By "evidence", I mean what I have read, the fact that the Red Cross has been givin access, etc. They are permitted to receive mail and messages from their families. At least 84 prisoners have been released. Why is it these stories have begun with th Britons?
If in fact these stories are accurate, why didn't the guys we've arrested for spying down there (the chaplain, for instance) mention them? What has no one else corroborated these stories?
Also, givin the absurd nature of the claims, the limits of my credulity are strained to the maximum. Now, if he said they were flogged with hoses while being hung upside down for days on end, I might believe it.

You really have no reason to believe or disbelieve, except for your prejudices. We will need to wait for corroboration of these stories, if any.

But, nothing that has been said surprises me. We do much worse through our government.
