i'm specifically wondering about the ones that you can take to the grand canyon. i've heard about some that they take you there then you get out and actually have a picnic lunch down in the canyon.

doing some google searching there seems to be a lot of these companies out there.

i was just wondering if anyone has done them before and would recommend a specific one.

I drove to the canyon (Indian reservation location which is closest to Vegas). From there I took a helicopter into the canyon (two companies offer it for about $75 if I remember correctly). Well worth it, but I wish I had more time in the canyon. The best part was going over the edge and the pilot purposely dropped the helicopter a few feet. You get great views that others miss. You can fly direct from Vegas, but I wanted to spend time on the rim.

I did the night flight over the Vegas strip. Wife and I booked online about a month before we went and ended up getting placed in the front with the pilot (not sure if there is a correlation there or not).
Was fun. Only 15 minutes long, but was worth the ~$50 each I paid.

yeah that is really cheap. but those ones are much shorter and closer . the grand canyon ones i'm looking at start at like $300. we may end up doing one of the cheaper strip ones too with the whole group after the grand canyon one though.

I liked the Papillon helicopter tours that I went on. They land in the canyon for lunch, and you see a lot of nice sites on the way.

I did one a couple years back with Papillon and it was good. We didn't get out and do a lunch or anything, but we did see a good amount of the canyon.

I don't have any recommendation for any particular company, but I have seen them pop up every now and then on Living Social/Groupon type sites.

I had gone on one and it's a great experience to see the Grand Canyon from above.

I proposed to my wife at the bottom of the Grand Canyon last year via helicopter tour.

I ultimately went with Maverick. They are more expensive, but they fly newer helicopters and their flight record is flawless.

The lunch is just champagne and light snacks. Don't expect a full meal. We did a sunset flight and on the way back they flew us over the strip so we could see all the lights.

I would highly recommend them.

My wife and I did a helicopter tour to the grand canyon. Like dirtboy, we also went with Maverick -- http://www.maverickhelicopter.com/default.aspx

It's a bit steep in price (~500ish), but I think we both agreed it was well worth it. We did the skywalk tour.

I don't know about the other places, but Maverick gives you a DVD tape recording of the flight afterwards which was pretty cool. They also gave is some basic food and water items while we were there.

Essentially it was a 30 minute flight over. It then lands, they give you an hour to walk around as well as out onto the skywalk, then a 30 minute flight back.

They also pick you up at whatever hotel you are staying at.

Fun times, definitely recommended.

Maverick didn't give me a DVD, I had to pay for mine. Not sure it's worth it, but we have it anyways.
